Yeah, cover songs don't bug me at all, they can even a tool to help people learn (I took piano lessons for a long time and basically what you do is learn by playing from the works of masters, the decomposing composers. ;) ) and it can be fun to put your own spin on a well known tune - I enjoy some covers, some are downright fantastic and one of my favorites was Cowboy Junkies cover of Sweet Jane originally sang by Lou Reed - really gorgeous. I think what makes a good cover isn't about copying the song to a perfect t - that's already been done before obviously- but taking the original ball and rolling with it using your own style, your own passion. It can be like an artistic interpretation of a song, very much like remixes are, like you said. And chemicalreaction, you really ought to check out Bizarre Love Triangle, it's a great stuck-in-your-head-all-day-but-in-a-good-way track. Matter of fact, drop some cash and invest in Substance - if you're stuck in love on Blue Monday, this record could easily be a staple in your collection. Don't forget about Joy Division either! I think you'd really dig some of thier signature songs like Love Will Tear Us Apart and She's Lost Control.

Not all cover versions are minions of hell, you know ?

Australian rock band Gun did an excellent cover version of Cameo's "Word Up" (whose original version is just crap) that definitely is superior to its original.

I have heard Bizzare love triangle by New Order. i was talking about the Frente version you were telling us about. :)

Yeah i am really getting into all this New Order and Smiths business. These bands are awesome and their tracks are almost forgoten today (imo). I am going to buy Substance soon. I am confused a little bit. Joy Division and New Order and same bands right ?? New Order used to be Joy Division the way chems were called the dust brothers , right ?

I really like New Order's acid synth pop thing or whatever you wanna call em officially. Anyone heard em like here ??? I have Blue Monday Live but that's about it. I want more of them live stuff.

A decent, brief bio on Joy Division and New Order, though there's o'plenty more out there: http://www.vh1.com/a...order/bio.jhtml

Basically, after Ian Curtis of Joy Division committed suicide, the 3 remaining members continued onward as New Order. The same band, but different because of the absence of Ian Curtis. You can really hear New Order roots in Joy Division, but Joy Division def has a lot more punk/goth overtones - a lot darker and a lot rougher around the edges. There's this movie, 24 Hour Party People, which focuses on the whole (or part of, more like it) Manchester scene that was first spawned in it's embryonic state when the Sex Pistols came to town in the 70's. Because Joy Division (and New Order) hailed from Manchester, they pretty much set the stage for the music bang/revolution that took place and the film gives a picture of that. But unfortunately focuses a bit too much on some aspects, and pays little attention to other details which would have made the movie a stand out work. The movie isn't the best movie that's for sure but it's not terrible - it gives a sort of timeline of events leading up to, during, and after the Manchester scene explosion of the 80's.

As for seeing them live, no I missed that boat unfortunately - but I have plenty of peers who've experienced New Order live and they said it was everything above and beyond what they were expecting. :)
