Point is, he alredy stressed your point from a different angle, and you got cheeky about it, when there was no need.

This is true, but he might already know since he does browse these parts once in a while. I just think it might be... kind of weird... to email him and say, "Dear Ed, really bangin Rock Drill tune can't wait to hear what's come of the 40 gems. Oh and by the way - please help the forums we are being attacked by spam, is there anything you can do about it? Yours truly, whirlygirl P.S. stash makes killer jerk chicken."

OK - maybe not quite like that. But you know what I mean by weird, even awkward.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Thats why I suggested we get Darkstar to do it, I mean he came half way across the world, now thats commitment at its highest, and hes always on here so the least Ed can do is insure he can linger round here in safe good 'non spammage' hands :) :P

We should send one mail on behalf of the forum.

I actually think that's a pretty damn good message. Maybe bold or italicize the part where we ask for his help, though.

Part of the reason why we have no new posters around here is because of the spam, but also, whether we realize it or not, we're not very welcoming to new posters. A few "hey how are ya"'s get tossed out, but there are a number of people who start making cracks and taking the piss. Now I know it's only done in fun and it's usually witty and humorous and I laugh a lot....... but if I was a newbie and my first post or two got shot down with sarcasm and inside jokes, I'd not likely stick around either.

If we make it until Chemical 6 either on this board, or a new official board gets launched, there are bound to be lots of new peeps about. I think it would be in our long-term interests to make the place inviting in terms of atmosphere.

Hmmm. Maybe italicize the bit about stash's jerk chicken. hmmm...

No really - I think you have a point. There will always be the few who take a pot shot at a newbie, and there will always be people who are a bit shy and won't speak up, and then you have the greeter types who try to make people feel welcome - I think this forum has all of that. There have been some new people in the past but the thing is, things are relatively quiet on the Chemical front and we're not getting loads of traffic like we were when the album was fresh out and the Brothers were touring. I don't think our attitude as a whole is necessarily to blame why new people don't stick around. But I definitely agree it would be nice to be more welcoming to new people especially the ones who are just getting into the Chems and have lots of questions that we've known the answer to for a long time now.

i remember when i was a newb X-D .

I had been a very long time lurker, then finally i had something important to add. I came across the U.S. boxer promo, and noticed nobody had seen the new cover art/color and thought it was a good idea to share with the forum. Signed up, shared my prize (my new boxer promo). Enjoyed the attention, and then stuck around. Of course, i still had my noob moments and what not, but eventually i learned what is what (at least i think so ;-) ).

So yeah, if it wasnt for the boxer promo i found, i probably would still be a lurker.

Dear Ed,

Please do something about the spam taking over this forum or we'll make you dig your own hole, 6 feet deep. You have exactly 48 hours to get it done. So push that button, if you catch my drift.

Yours sincerely,

Slipvin the Great.
