does anyone understand why we get sent so many e-mail viruses?? today i downloaded 4 e-mails, all of which contained viruses. it wouldn't be so bad but one came from iguanapunks e-mail address and 3 from antype's address!!! i know you guys didn't send them but this sounds like a security problems with my computer

i think'll have to do a virus scan later, and maybe a download of XP service pack 2

I have downloaded XP 2 and it's worth it, also on two of my e-mail accounts I have been getting spam e-mail, today one of which claims to be from the Royksopp official site, but all three had the 'Netsky' virus. Fortunately these are on an online Yahoo account which stops viruses from running and is very helpful. I think someone may be trying to spread the virus through our profiles on this board, considering I have used both accounts in my profile and both are causing problems. I had to shut the other one down 'cos there were weird e-mails. }:-@ :'( :x

Now, I have to provide an e-mail address on this board but you can't hide it from others if you choose not to display it. Not good security is it?

That stinks, sneaker!!

I too get a lot of virus sent in the form of attachments in my computer. I can usually tell it's a virus by the misspelling of my name or if the mail is addressed to M or whirlygirl. That along with spam from Nigerian benefactors who want me to be a millionaire if I simply give them my bank account number. It's aggravating but simple to delete out of my life. I don't open anything that's arrived from someone unfamiliar, or open anything titled "your document" or "your account."

Another thing - I get a lot of mails from hijacked accounts from hotmail and aol - along with accounts from smaller email providers but the bulk comes from aol and hotmail. If anyone uses hotmail or aol, you might want to consider opening up a new account.

I rarely get sent viruses via email. I reccomend that you have a seperate email account that you use for message forums and sign up deals. That way you can use that one and have all the spam / viruses go to it, and then have a personal address that you've only given out to friends / family

But if your friends receive Virus and if the virus takes the adressbook the send more emails, and if your friend have your "friends email account" on their AB, i think you will receive the virus too. :'(

Finally, is the same :(

hmm. maybe it's some kind of virus that uses the email addresses from your address book or simply takes addresses that you've received emails from.

Run these to clean your system. Make sure you run both ad aware AND spybot as each doesn't completely clean your whole system.

I always get emails saying that my email to somebody@somewhere.com has been returned to sender but I'd never even heard of the email address I'd apparently sent an email to!! :?

adaware is superb. also just use norton anti-virus, its only $35 a year. get the xp pack 2 and put a firewall in. ive had no trouble since i did that after the "blaster.exe" virus.
