Got to Brixton around 10, Cagedbaby were just finishing there set. From what I heard of them didn?t think they were too bad, like a rocky fc kahuna live or something. They were definitely an improvement on the Secret Machines as a warm up act!! Got down to the front and meet up with Jeanie and Mippio and his mates. Jeanie spent the whole night on the front railing bang centre stage, she had the prime position and she wasn?t giving it up. Chatted to Mippio for a while before the Chems came on stage, he?s a sound geezer.
So the gig, not going to waffle to much about the set, cos most points about this tour have already been made. I think it was nice of the brothers to do a tour for the sake of it, they not really promoting anything at the moment. Maybe its a thank you to the fans for a great year, then again they do like to do a tour the UK in December!!
The new intro was cool, interesting to see how that will mutate into and album track. And the other new track tiger song/animal song (call it what you want) was quite demented, I wouldn?t call it sinister though. It had a guitar lick running through it that sounds like it was sampled for the 60s or 70s. A pulsating beat that was reminiscent of swiper, but less drum and bassy and more restrained echoy hi hats. And of course the synths were psychedelic and crazy like the big jump, infact it sounded like someone was straggling a guitar if that is possible. At the moment this track sound very much like a b-side at the mo, but that?s no insult. We all know who good Chems b-sides are. But the track at the moment only weighs in a 3 or 4 minutes. The set on a whole sounded very different to how the push the button tour started at the beginning of the year. I loved the three little birdies bit, although I really wanted to hear the whole god dam track!! Out of control was mix out with the beats of 3 little birdies then the temptation synths were layered over the top of the beats. It worked really well. Love the way they are digging into there back catalogue and layering up their sets.
As for the encore it was my only disappointment on the night. I had high hopes of a Bernard Sumner re-match but I didn?t see any monitors or mic stand being dragged on stage and when got glint started my heart sank a little. I?m so jealous of you guys witnessing out of control on Friday, but in a cool I?m happy for you kinda way!! Also I would have loved to here the sunshine underground live. But its all cool cos the brothers are mixing up their sets and keeping things fresh and that?s what its all about at the end of the day. Also the crowd, what was going on Saturday?? Lots of ?C U Next Tuesdays? at the front. As Mippio said to me its not very usual to have people moshin at Chems gig!! It was a bit silly at times, maybe people should be neckin pills and not having a good drink. Lets get back to the dance music basics!!
Anyway a good night out. Mippio and Jeanie were going on to fabric to see James Lavelle, I had to pussy out I?m having a very hard month with work and all I wanted to do was have my slippers, a mug of coco and a good nights sleep. Next time the Chems play Brixton we will have to coordinate our plans better, it would have been nice to hook up with Rich and Mike. Oh well hopefully next year we will have some dj dates to look forward to. And I will be there like usual down the front.
See ya next year

Ive been checking the forum most of the day waiting for your review sneaker. Glad to here you had a good evening with the brothers. Set list again looks to be impressive.
I agree with you about the new intro track, be interesting to see where such a strange tune will end up, at the moment its very strange and doesnt quite seem compleate. As for the tiger/animal song it also sounds like its going somewhere. Shame that you didnt see OOC, but got glint is still a wicked track, you never know OOC with Bernard could become a more regular appearence in the next tour like Tim Burgess was for a short while.
Anyways back to my uni work, hopefully see you at a dj set next year.

Ok, I know im going to get soooo shot down here for saying this being a newbie but...
I thought the gig on sat was really poor and a massive let down to be honest
After all the hype of the new intro it wasn?t really that good was it
I thought they ruined hold tight London which never really kicked in and was it just me or was the sound really poor apart from the base.
And where the hell was sunshine underground and Bernard Sumner??!!!
This was the 6th time I?ve seen them over the years and it was the worst
I saw them here in Manchester in March this year and it was one of the best gigs I?ve ever been to and to go from that to the Brixton gig with its atmosphere of a morgue.
This was my first ever London gig and I was pretty shocked by how crap at dancing you Londoners are and what was all that moshing rubbish all about too?
*Awaits the firing squad*

na you weren't unpolite, infact you were very sensible staying there!! the first half hour of the chems set i was getting very pissed of with the crowd. not the usual kinda chems fans in the acadamy on saturday me thinks
i gotta say after the chems finished your face was a treat. you were almost speachless. i think you really enjoyed that gig, you had the after gig glow!!

Last time I heard TPPR live I fell over after it finished - it literally knocked me on my ass!! :D
I had a huge Chemical afterglow going on after The Reel at Coachella. You'll have to ask Whirly and 'stash about the look on my face, but I imagine it was open-mouthed wonder. I was trying to focus on coming up with a good scam to meet Tom & Ed but could only stand there like a slack-jawed yokel. :D

i aint gonna shoot ya down - yet ;) :P (although actually i might do for that londerners comment, honestly just coz u got electric chair and the friggin' wigan casino u northerners reckon u can jig better than torville and dean ;))
i will say - i thoiught the atmosphere was flatter on sat than friday. too many casual punters there, not enough chems fans. and yeh the moshing was rubbish.
personally, i thought hold tight london was amazing live, the tweaks they did for the live arena were superb.
the new intro - was wicked. and a nice change. and really fuckin trippy :)
and yeh man, im sorry ya missed sunshine underground and bernard, that must be well dissappointing :( BUT u did get got glint, which i even said the night before i was a bit gutted we missed, because i do love it.
anyway, oops feels like im writing my review, so im gonna stop now ;) :)
