Scissor Sisters aren't a bad band at all - their debut is really strong, a few people I work with really love them. It was a sort of surprise breakthough. Where I work, we could barely keep them in stock for the first month.

i quite like filthy gourgeous tune and theres some cool mixes. but as has been said there not dance music and i cant see them lasting. Although they have created something different i think they are only gonna fill a gap and entertain for a short period until people get board. Saying that there tunes are very diverse.

is anyone into futureshock -there a band i would like to see play a part of the future, there music response remix is cool and late at night track pumps it, there also wicked live. Dunno what will happen 2 dee&bee many that will get more commercial, loads of people seem 2 bein2 AndyC.

No, you're right Sneaker, they're not a dance act, but at the same time their music makes you want to dance. *shrug* It's disco, really, at least for many of the songs.

What I think I enjoy is the fact that it's an album that can add a little energy to a party, or can simply be listened to.

I havent heard the Paperfaces mix, I'll have to track that down.

yeah, I really dig Futureshock, esp. their remixes, but I agree that the album has some great dance tracks on it, too

A nice mix indeed. Actually listened to most of it twice b/c my comp crashed and then kept crashing when I tried to forward to where I left off. The Paperfaces mix of Comfortably Numb is good, but I still prefer the original. However, I just heard the Paperfaces mix of 'Filthy/Gorgeous' a few minutes ago (go Pete Tong! heh) and quite like it.

Oh yeah, and the Futureshock mix of Underworld's 'Cowgirl' is rather striking, as well, to add my two cents to that discussion.

never forget: dance CAN NOT die and WILL NOT die as it is one of the oldest forms of human movements.

dance is one of the roots of culture. and: you can dance to the beatles as well (or the kinks, i prefer them) ;-) [/b]

This whole "dance music is dead" mantra is such bollocks, isn't it? Q were at it again when they panned Push The Button ffs.

I was gutted when Orbital called it a day last year and Faithless apparently are next, but to me the doom and gloom stories are just wishful thinking from people who never liked dance music in the first place.

I've seen the Prodigy and Fatboy Slim in the past couple of months and each event was rammed, tickets sold out within an hour etc.

And in the obscure part of Yorkshire where I now live, all the clubs for miles around had been playing charts n cheese for the past couple of years because they too believed dance was dead. But in the past couple of months a club very near to me started a new techno/progressive/underground night and it's been packed every time.

Dance music is very much alive and kicking when you have clubs that know what they're doing.

Well, something is wrong right now. It's not funny when you hear this r'n'b, rap, hiphop crap all the time. Plus totally uninspired videos whith naked chicks. Always when I'm changing TV stations, I think WTF? I can't help it. I'm not saying I don't like this kind of music at all. But when I think of hiphop, I think of BeastieBoys (keep playin' guys!). I even liked Busta Rhymes, Snoop or Dr. Dre with their early work.

It's even worse in Poland. There are all the pseudo hiphop bands doing horrible "music". And in the end there is Eric Prydz everywhere.

I remember being pissed that FIRESTARTER was such a smash hit. I've been a fan of Prodigy since Jilted, so when I saw 12years old girls with Keith on their T-Shirts I was almost offended.

But now it's worse. Then I could listen to my favorite bands on the radio stations, see them on the TV. And what is the most important DJs played them in the clubs all the time. Now I cannot find a club where I could dance to my favorite music. It is really difficult to find a cool place right now in my city. It's not small, it has about 500.000 people, but they play hiphop and this dance/techno (I don't know how to describe it - something like Prydz, Scooter, Darude, Oakenfold, Benassi style) music almost all of the time.

I only wish I had british MTV2, I heard it's pretty cool.

But it all doesn't really matter because I have PUSH THE BUTTON which is so ridiculously goooooood. I was really relieved when I heard it for the first time. I was really afraid after last Fatboy Slim and Prodigy albums. Latest Orbital was pretty OK, but it was their last. But The Brothers are amazing. Someone somewhere on this forum was right saying, that this music comes form the outerspace, and aliens told Ed and Tom to play it to the WORLD.

i remember the first album i ever bought was surrender,, i was like 10 or sumthing. i thought it was amazing, and this is probably what sparked my love for dance. but i cant help noticing that as much as we would love to disagree, dance is changing and fading away.

the new fatboyslim album in truth was average compared to his previous work, as was the prodigys new cd. although the chemical brothers is better than both of these i dont believe it will inspire new artists to make more dance music. it wont be the saviour of dance.

i wouldnt say dance music is dead though, more like going into hibernation. it will be shown in other forms of music, has anyone noticed the electro components of recent rock bands such as kasabian and the killers? and the synthy vibes in the scissor sisters pop songs, filthy gorgeous as a prime example.

it will be sad to see dance go, as with everything we love when it leaves, but it will always be there in spirit and i look forward to the explosion of dance music whe it re emerges in a few years time. Meanwhile i will enjoy the change it will bring in other genres. People still need stuff to dance to

Err, certain forms of music are growing huge on the underground scene - to the point where they're nearly breaking through.

Drum 'n' bass is massive, Hardcore has a big following, as does Breaks (my personal fave - go Plumps!). If you want the kinda feel the Chems had in terms of status back in the mid-late 90s, you've gotta look to these genres now. That sort of, popular, but not smeared across the radio and TV kinda thing.

I'd go along with that. I was at that massive 8pm to 7am NYE party in Manchester which was Phil Hartnoll, 808 State, Altern8 and old skool techno in one room and Grooverider, Fabio, Bailey and Sappo in the other. I went for the techno but was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the DnB too. Like you say, it's one of the big styles of now.

dont worry boy! dance music isnt ending!

me and my friend neil are gonna eventually make a techno band. i think. cuz he asked me one day if i wanted to come his house and make music with him. he has the program reason. and once i get a job, i think im gonna buy some equipment and make a studio in my sisters room. because she'll be moved out by the time im old enough to do any of this. by the way i'm 14. so hopefully in the future, we will have room for more dance and techno lovers like me! ;-) 8) ;-)

dont worry about anything!

oh ya, the thing that pissed me off on the new chemy bros album is the damn nigger vocals in Left Right. that pissed me of a lot. no offense to anybody whos lack, but i absolutely hate rap. defintly when some damn nigger is singing al this jive shit. hate it.
