Just hooking up my new computer today and I'm having a bit of a problem. Neither the mouse nor keyboard currently function and though Windows pops up the Found New Hardware window whereby I can get the mouse and keyboard recognized, I can't use either of them to click the appropriate box in the window.

Help, please?

Are they USB devices?

Do you have USB Keyboard Support enabled in the BIOS?

Failing that, can you scrouge a PS/2 keyboard from somewhere?

It is a PS2 keyboard and mouse. It's a new-ish computer but the keyboard and mouse are over 5 years old.

That's strange, can you get into the BIOS by pressing the appropriate key?

That'll tell you if it's just Windows that has the problem

try searching the drivers for your mouse and keyboard on the net, and burn them to a CD or on a floppy disk and insert them in the computer when Windows try to install the hardwares. Else, wait for a while. My mouse didn't work for the first 3/4 minutes when I used it for the first time on my laptop.

I think the OS won't boot if the Bios doesn't detect keyboard and mouse.

Thanks for the help, by the way, guys. I'll try out these suggestions later.

You could always try a USB keyboard X-D

yeah, i'd say go down and grab a new keyboard and mouse... it's completely weird that they aren't being detected.

The funny thing is I used to have this computer hooked up a couple months back (just never really used it) and they worked fine. :?
