13 Ghosts was, well... I thought it was kind of lame myself. Damn cool house though, if you like glass houses. And there was plenty of gore and the costumes and make-up were good. But the story was so weak in so many spots, it didn't have a leg to stand on. Part of what makes a good classic horror flick imo is it's psychological impact. I think that's what made the film Sixth Sense and the Ring and the first Blair Witch so memorable.
I think Se7en was one of the better horror movies to date. Great story, great acting, great direction, enough gore but not too much that it overshadowed the psychological impact of its freakiness. I can't think of any recent movie that comes close to how freaked out that movie made me feel while watching it, and afterwards.

I like the horror flicks - even the cheesy ketchup blood ones that are supposed to be campy. I saw Nightmares On Wax a long time ago, I cna't even remember it really. The bummer thing about horror movies that I've found is that if I saw them when I was young, I have the image of complete freakiness in my mind. Like The Exorcist for example. Or Carrie. Those freaked me out and gave me nightmares (I shouldn't have been watching them when I was a kid anyway - but I couldn't resist) Then when I go back to watch them later on, the movie loses something, like all of a sudden they aren't as freaky as I once thought them to be. Still good movies that have the psychological freakiness, but they lose something when you've got a certain childhood memory attached to them and then you watch them later as an adult.
What Lies Beneath had it's freaky moments. I think the ending could have wrapped up better rather than dragged out. It would have had more of an impact if it didn't have the feelgood ending.
I watched the Others not too long ago. I was expecting it to be a cut rate cheesy movie but it turned out pretty good and had a genuinely creepy feel. When creepy kids are thrown into the mix, it always makes for a better horror flick. :D

You can never go wrong with Psycho's brilliance. It's classic. The Shining was great, that freaky kid saying REDRUM over and over and the elevator full of blood... images that will follow for a lifetime. Unbreakable was pretty good, same director as Sixth Sense so the movies had that same feel. Then there's Amityville Horror... ugh. Anything that's supposedly based on a true story is always a mental freak fest. One movie that plain scared the crap out of me, and I can't re-watch it to this day was The Entity. The ending was lame, but overall the movie was seriously disturbing and left me a bit scarred for a while. I love most all kinds of movies but there's a special place in me reserved for horror flicks. It's nice that I can talk about it with people that can appreciate. I don't know too many other chicks that dig horror movies. ;)
Thor, 28 Days Later looks like it's right up my alley! I'm going to try and see it this weekend.
