Yeah, I don't know about this. I personally am not a fan of the idea, for the reasons above and for the fact that tickets go on sale this Friday. 2 of the same, spread across 2 weekends seems a bit of an exercise in redundancy. There are so many things I find wrong with this right now, I don't have time to type it all out before I have to get off to work. The only benefit I see here is some people will get to see their favorite bands twice over 2 weekends. Maybe this is a good idea. I don't know.... The wristband thing turned out swell and much better than I ever expected, so perhaps I could be totally wrong about this Coachella pts 1 & 2 thing.

^ yeah... Goldenvoice (the promotors) are very organized and look toward European festivals as models of how a festival should be. But I am skeptical, because it seems like such a stretch... I just don't know enough about how this stuff works or how artist/promotor contracts are set up to pull something like this off with success.

I actually read it wrong! I actually thought both weekends would be different acts and bands.

It does feel like that in a way for an artist to do one weekend and to come back next week! What if that artist wants to tour another city before or after the first weekend? for example:
This band....let's say.....Chems....they come on the first weekend and play! but now they have a week to wait to play again when they could be in another city to gig. Realistically, I don't think it's a good idea! What if bands only want to play one day and travel somewhere else to another city to play?
What happens if the band plays the first weekend and then doesn't play the 2nd weekend! There's no guarantee!
