I'm sorry, griffin, but you are wrong. Perhaps you can't tell the difference -- but that does NOT mean there isn't one. Especially with MP3s. M4A-AAC, on the other hand, sounds fine at 128k and has surprisingly warm bass for compressed audio. But I do convert audio to M4A-AAC properly with a specialized app, so that might make a difference.

Ugh... I give up. You're more liikely to hear a difference on headphones/small system than on a giant PA - unless its pure quality, like Chems live setup.

All i can say is you must be using a shitty mp3 convertor, }:-@ and i do know my stuff the freq's most affected by mp3 conversion are the high to mid frequencies the high hats/cymbals get most of the artifacts. Converting to a 128kbit mp3 loses a wopping 90% of info at an 11-1 compression ratio now you would think that a 90% loss in data would have a huge impact on the sound quality but apparently it's all data thats not needed! And just before i go of course you CAN hear the difference between a cd/wave file and a 128kbit mp3 but it's a small difference not a huge one and changinging to 320 is'nt gonna change it that much you know a cd is a raw wave file an mp3 is a compressed file so it can never really be cd quality so if your happy using 320 then thats up to you all im saying is that 128 is considered cd quality not 320 cubase sx has cd quality written next to 128kbit does that mean that 320 is double cd quality :x well for me for sound to file size ratio theres little point in doubling the k's but if you can hear such a massive difference ten my ears must be fucked........ and there not :)

Err, my two-cents worth..
If u'r listening to u'r music at relatively lower volumes and on an average system, u might not be able to make out much, but i have a huge sony setup, and believe me the difference is HUGE. I don't even like 320kbps mp3s. I don't like mp3s, period. For me, it's gotta be the original cdis to really blow me away. Griffin, maybe u should check out all the chems u've been hearing from the original audios on big speakers, or good heaphones, and u might discover shit u've never heard before. I might be wrong, but with music with the no. of layers n layers the chems use, it better be the original. 128s are horrible infact if u pump them on a good setup. They'r much shallower n trebblier. The whole sub bass end just gets a bad kick up it's ass on mp3s. Buy original music if u got access n the money!

other side of the story....
i love mp3s.. i don't think there is anything wrong with them or having songs in mp3 format if you can't afford the cds or vinlys like me. I have many cds downloaded from the internet and personally i can't tell the difference. If the music is good it won't make a big difference if the quality is good or bad. maybe djs and other music lovers can tell the difference coz that's what they are good at....but for an average music lover it really isn't a big deal.

When you listen to a song, you don't want to miss out on what the composers have created. Listening to a song as how it was intended to be heard, perfect quality is a different experiance and makes a lot of difference.
Saying this, if you don't have the right equipment you wont be able to fully apreciate the sound. I'm talking about a 7.1 quality surround system, and a decent unit. If you've experianced that, then you can tell me the sound quality doesn't matter.

Jacksrevenge man you would'nt believe how much original music i buy too much in fact X-D I guess we're all coming from different perspectives on this mp3 business i download mp3s for sure but if i like the song i'll buy it if i do'nt i'll delete it when i make my own mp3s its of my own music and this is only for taking over to my mates house i'll use 128k for the sound to data ratio and one last broadside to iguanapunk as i'm not gonna talk about this no more but its not a fact that 320 is cd quality as i keep saying and stick to is that 128 is considered cd quality check out this site.http://www.jsonline....nov02/93072.asp
