I've heard a lot of talk about square pusher but never looked into their music. If they're anything like Autechre then I don't want to know, otherwise recommend me ONE essential squarepusher track.

nice one

Damn it man, you got to read my posts. I capitillised the word "one" stating that I just wanted one track. Next time i'll have to capitilise it, embolden, italicise, underlinise and colourise ;)

I've had a listen to the album.

Does it also have live tracks????

Because on some tracks I hear a crowd applauding.

It seems like its live, but I think he just uses samples or parts from live recordings in his studio productions.

I know pidgeon-holeing music is wrong, but what would you call squarepusher's music? I've only heard "my red hot car", and I'm not sure what to call it. It seems almost like a funky house type thing, but I'm sure I'm wrong.

I think he pretty much falls under either Drill and Bass or just Braindance (IDM).

IDM? I thought Aphex and BOC were IDM?

Braindance is pretty much the same as IDM. As there is no set definition of the boundaries of "Intelligent Dance Music", the official stance is that all styles have there own sound and borrow from other electronic genres.

I've always thought of IDM as electronic music that flies in the face of rhythm. The beat is almost ignored, and sounds and textures appear anywhere. Ok, not quite as randomly as I suggest, but that sort of thing.

Like I said earlier, Aphex and BOC.

Those are the two different spectrums of it too. Aphex (his newer stuff) is fast paced, in your face drill and bass. That can be conisdered IDM. Then we have Boards Of Canada. Slow, beautiful melodic music that is made for easy listening and really, I cannot put it in any other genre besides saying it is simply IDM.

I haven't heard Aphex's new stuff, I'm not all that keen in truth, but I've got Selected ambient works 2, and that's the sort of thing I was referring to.
