Following their fifth consecutive number 1 album last year, the Grammy award winning ‘We Are The Night’, The Chemical Brothers return with ‘Brotherhood’ a best of collection with a kick and a twist, set for release on 1st September 2008.

The Chemical Brothers have established themselves as true pioneers of electronic music and have become one of the most popular dance acts of all time. Now seems the perfect time to take stock of their seminal output with the double disc celebration that is Brotherhood.

Brotherhood comprises of 2 discs, the first is a collection of 13 undeniable benchmark Singles from the band's immense back catalogue and new track ‘Keeping My Composure’ which features the shimmering flow of Baltimore’s Spank Rock.

The 2nd will feature exclusively Electronic Battle Weapons 1-10. Since 1996 Electronic Battle Weapons have acted as the laboratories for The Chems devious musical experiments and laid the rhythmic and melodic foundations for numerous tracks as well as providing some of the duos most formidable mixes. Until now Electronic Battle Weapons 1-9 have only been available on various limited formats and this is the first time they have been widely available.

Brotherhood will be preceded by the digital download single Midnight Madness on 4th August 2008. Derived and developed from Electric Battle Weapons 10, Midnight Madness is The Chemical Brothers at their most infectious, euphoric, report to the dancefloor best.

well.....theres goes the worth of a huge portion of my collection! ah well....shit happens

where's Life Is Sweet?

He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

Oh dear, as much as im looking forward to the EBW series I feel they will get slated by the reviewers over this one. No It Began In Afrika, no Come With Us, no Salmon Dance, The Boxer etc. Should have released a complete singles collection. This smacks of a contract filler! Taking all that into account OF COURSE I'LL BUY IT!

The singles are not really the best of them in my opinion... I'm surprised to see Saturate, as the EBW8 (which is better than Saturate) is on the 2nd disc... And I think a best of without TSU or TPPR is nonsense :P

I just realised.. every chemical brothers song could be on this album.

What whats the point of having most of the song of Single 03 on it?

Let me re-write this press release:

The Chemical Brothers are set to release "Brotherhood," a well-packaged somewhat-useful frisbee accompanied by a cd containing all ten Electronic Battle Weapons compiled in one place. You'll have an amazing soundtrack to listen to while you toss this disc back and forth with a friend, and when you're done with it you can also use it as a beer coaster!

He Sneaker, is that tracklist nice guesswork or for real? Blog Post says 13 tracks and your list is 14. And indeed Saturate on disc 1 and EBW8 on disc 2 is a bit weird.

i found that tracklisting somewhere on the net, i have no reason to believe its not genuine. the brotherhood cd is 14 tracks, "a collection of 13 undeniable benchmark Singles from the band's immense back catalogue and new track ‘Keeping My Composure’" 13+1=14!!

Can't wait for whatever the Brothers want to release - I'm so looking forward to the bonus and this is a nice thing to tide us over between albums. :)

no offense you guys but disc one is obviously not made for you. it's marketed more as an intro for people who, say, don't OWN all the singles, albums, eps, etc. Like the singles, the bonus disc is the incentive for us to get the album, since it is providing something we'd enjoy more than other people.

So yeah, as 'ooter said, the first disc may be a good frisbee for us, just as the EBW compilation may be a good frisbee for people who don't know the chems too well and simply want a disc with galvanize, hey boy hey girl, etc. on it. You just can't expect these days an album to be released on disc/vinyl to appeal to the people on this forum and other needy chems fans, obviously the record company wants something practical: an album that will appeal to the lowest common denominator (for sales!) attached with some bells & whistles for the loyalists so they wont skip this. so we'll be buying an ebw compilation on sept 1st, not to say this doesn't sound like a decent compilation of good songs.

I hope there will be more bonuses. Live vids ? Music Videos DVD ? a free EMS VCS3 ?

I agree, Biff. With just about every word.

In light of all the festivals the Chems have been playing over the past year, having a fresh Best Of out on the market will trigger the types of sales needed to hopefully make the release a lucrative success. You know, a release that will catch the eyes and ears of those who went to a festival and stumbled upon a Chems set unexpectedly. The Chems have a lot of material by now so a Best of is a good starting point for casual fans, I think.

And I agree with Biff's loyalist point. A lot of us (myself included) have been asking for years to have a compilation of all the EBW's, readily accessible in one place, and in tangible format, and we're getting our wish.

Extras and more bonuses would be nice but there is such a thing as asking for too much. One step at a time...

Geezus. You can get Block Rockin' Beats on, what, 135 different compilations? Do they REALLY need to put that on another disc? Come on, now.

i will buy brotherhood too but only because of the EBW selection disc. mission accomplished, record company ;)

but a chems best of without TSU (and TPPR)?!?!. kick out setting sun (a song i was never really into it-don't know why -> my personal feeling) and saturate of course (EBW8). i also woud switch DIA (which i like veeery much) from the list and put it began in africa (or surface to air) on it.

wether or not DIA, HBHG is on the track list i will buy brotherhood only of the 10 weapons of mass eruption in my speakers...

I agree with you guys but it doesn't matter how much anybody complains about whats on this, it won't change and you'll still go out and buy it anyway. Personally, the only thing that is reeeeally irritating me is that the single is to be digital only. WTF!? Oh God >:O

@nalakip way up top. remeber, It began In Afrika = EBW5

Which makes me beg the question.....

Will it be the long version or the short version. Cause wasn't the inital release of EBW5 a longer version with more beats to it?

Also wondering what the cryptic writings will be if there is a vinyl release. Will it be forum inspired?
