We got some movie tickets as gifts for the holidays, so we might use them this weekend to see Tr2n on the IMAX in 3D.

Wow nice! You're right to go in with that state of mind too ;) I want to see it again, but not the whole film, just the sexy bits :D

their is like 3 songs that actually cultivates Daft Punk's techno-ish ways, the others are more opera style

You mean "orchestral".

Never seen that site before. Still reading, but I have always been lost in the genres. Hopefully things will become clearer.
Further Remixed There's nothing else...

What I meant is that if there are errors in the hardcore part, chances are that there also are errors in the other parts.

I'm intended to believe that Techno is the generality of all electronica, big beat and trance genres. I'm pretty sure there is a difference, but I'm too lazy to find out.

Aah, good old Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music! It's been a while since I've been to that site. That's a fantastic resource to bury an hour or more of your time in. So much fun!

The Ishkur Guide is a handy tool and a great resource but like Wikipedia, it can't be taken as gospel 100% of the time. It's a good way to discover and get some history on the music's roots and to learn how they are linked. But in general I feel I've always been lost in the genre's too. And I worked in record store for 11 years! I understand the importance of categorizing music... but sometimes feel it is subcategorized into oblivion almost to the point where the lines become blurry again.

Or maybe I just get confused easily.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Yeah I think he put too many useless categories in the trance part.

it's also not up to date, there is no dirty house or dubstep catagory. i also miss the french electro rock catagory (digitalism, justice, vitalic etc.)

look, i'm not a techno retard, i know my genres, i was just too fucking lazy to be so specific on it. If I could describe Daft Punk's 3 'techno' songs as a genre, it would probably be Big Beat.

Nope, Daft Punk didn't make a single Big Beat track... They do House, pop, Acid (rollin&scratchin), Electro(short circuit), electrorock(human after all), orchestral(TRON), synthpop(overture), hip hop (kanye west - stronger), deep house (musique) and Mash-up (Alive 2007)

To be called big beat you need big beats, Daft Punk mostly has 909 or 808 driven 4 to the floor drum patterns in stead of heavily compressed sampled breaks.

little point of advice: talk when you know what your talking about. if everybody obeyed that simple rule we would probably have world peace :D

oh yeah i know the overall album of TRON was orchestral, but we're trying to find the ones that don't sound SO orchestral...after all. To me it's like big beat, but, who knows?

Well, since I am at the movies waiting for Tron to start, I thought I would post in this thread. :D When the movie is over and we're let out of the theater, it will be 2011.

Happy New Year! xo

Haha cool! Great minds think alike... I did the same thing tonight (or rather last night) as well.

It was my first time doing Imax 3D and the 3D was junk. I saw no image depth in any part of the film. About 30 mins into the movie I gave up on the specs. But apart from that, I actually really enjoyed the movie. I don't have to tell you that the best part was the visuals (including the ladies in the tight jumpsuits, w00t!). The movie did a good job (at least for me) of recreating the same feeling when I first saw Tron as a child, which was COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!
