Ok, I paid for the CD, why do I not have the right to play the music on my MP3 player which only has legal music on it?

BMG once explained to me that what I buy isn't the music but the right to listen to it. Like with a cinema ticket - I am allowed to watch the movie, but it is not mine.
Same goes for the CDs - I got the right to listen to it, but BMG reserves its right to say that I am not allowed to copy it.
(at least that is their point of view)
