Midlake and Chemical Brothers: Perfect Strangers

Posted Apr 17th 2007 6:00PM by Mike Spinella

Filed under: News, Electronic, Exclusive, WTF?

This week, the Chemical Brothers revealed the first single from their forthcoming 'We Are the Night' album. On past efforts, the Chems collaborated with everyone from Beth Orton to Bloc Party's Kele Okereke. This time the duo ventures into indie-folk territory, calling upon Midlake to lay down the closing track.

Midlake frontman Tim Smith told Spinner, "I actually have never spoken to them." In fact, Midlake produced the track remotely in their hometown of Denton, Texas, which is a long way from South London.

Smith wasn't intimidated by working with the pioneering electronic duo, but not for the reason you might expect. He told Spinner, "I hadn't heard them at all before this project." He did his homework before going into the studio, getting a crash course in the Chems by borrowing a bunch of albums from a friend.

Midlake is getting into the remix game themselves, commissioning party-rocker Erol Alkan to rework their song 'Roscoe.' Smith told Spinner that if the Chems were to reinterpret a Midlake track, he'd want it to be 'Young Bride,' offering, "I'd like to see what they'd do with that."

Chemical Brothers Consider Oasis Model Siblings

Posted May 7th 2007 3:00PM by Mike Spinella

The Chemical Brothers, who aren't, well, brothers, paid the DL show a visit to talk about their favorite actual brothers. Wouldn't you know the Gallagher siblings of Oasis topped the list.

"A model pair of brothers for any brothers," they said. "Those two write great songs and are in one of the greatest bands ever. We worked with Noel, and we saw Liam the other day. He shouted at us from a passing car."

Chemical Brothers release their new album, 'We Are the Night,' on June 19.

Even though the Chemical Brothers are known for working a wide range of artists, Its nice to see different artists of two different sides of the Spinner spectrum work together and even go as far as to say "Yeah they're both great, love Oasis. "

Cool find, irish!

It's getting to look a lot like Christmas - tunes, album, shows, and of course interviews (which I had almost forgotten about entirely til now).

It'll be nice to walk into a store and check the music mags and know the Chems are on the inside.

I met Midlake the other week down here in Brighton, nice bunch of lads (good set of beards). I'll forgive them not knowing who the Brothers are, they are from Texas (sorry any Texans who frequent this site), can't wait for the track should be amazing.
