Its all a matter of your preference.
I never downloaded any aphex twin because I always respected him as an artist and wanted to support his music, but I just read an interview with him and he states he downloads tonnes of shtuff too and was even thinking about making his music free for download to the public. So then I decided if he doesnt care (because he has enough cash as it is), I'll download his music.
Simple as pie :)

I'll download stuff by an artist, and if I like it I'll consider buying the album.
But for artists I really really like, I'll always buy their stuff......like all the Chemical singles I can get my hands on......its hard to get all that stuff up here in Canada. :(

I download live stuff, and stuff that's not available either coz it's too old and/or not on CD. I also download songs of artists I've had recommended to me, just to see if it's worth buying.
I've never downloaded commercially available stuff and burnt it to CD, I think that's one step to far. The only CD I've ripped from a mate and not bought was Pink Floyd - Echoes, and that's coz it was 21 in the shops! Now it's in the sales, I'm gonna buy it. At 10, it's a bargain! :D
