It seems that Leftfield will release a new album, Alternative Light Source. The first track Universal Everything is really bangin'!

ROTFL.

I was just about to post about this very topic!

I'm listening to the single...

It's good.

I don't know if it's great, but I'm really enjoying it on the first listen. I genuinely like it.

We'll see how it holds up after a few listens.

I'm just excited that they are releasing new music. Speaking of "they," is it just the one of them now?

Thanks for posting.

True story. But I absolutely loved that performance--I felt privileged to have been able to see them live.

Yeah it's Neil Barnes (Interview here from 2014). I guess if one of them gets to keep the name, Barnes makes more sense as he kinda started it by himself when Not Forgotten came out in 1990, and Mr Daly gradually came in from being a helper to a proper second member. Perhaps Messrs Barnes and T Rowlands could go out on tour together and help each other out during their respective sets...I can dream.

At one point Leftfield looked like they were going to be huge. It's almost as if the Chems came along and stole their thunder (both releasing debut albums in '95). Perhaps in another reality we'd all be waiting for Leftfield 8 rather than Chemical 8. I remember getting my hands on the triple vinyl version of Leftism when it came out (a competition win from DJ Danny Rampling's radio show, - I was very young!) and just thinking it was the most exciting electronic/dance album since...ever. Looking at Discogs it seems the triple vinyl version is worth a few quid these days, partially because of the inclusion of Half Past Dub and the 'Cut For Life' version of Song Of Life.

I agree with you Pooter, this track is definitely good. It's solid but maybe it's not going to have the same impact as Leftfield did the first time round. I guess that was the problem, they couldn't live up to the first album. But this track still beats the pants off any of that 'EDM' stuff that's out there. More please!

I'm feeling Leftfield indulgent now. First up, a Leftfield remix of a track that was supposedly never going to come out until Pete Tong played the white label and called on the record co to put it out. This was years before Utra Nate had a worldwide pop hit with 'Free'. A nice example of how the different sections of dance music used to fraternise with each other back in the early 90's. If you don't like the first half of this track...it gets better in the second half.

And second up, something less 'gay'. From 2003 when the 'Nu Skool Breaks' thing was in full effect, an awesome breaks bootleg mix of Song of Life. Just get past the generic breaks intro and it's gold. Oh you might have to watch it on youtube rather than embedded.

Fuck yes, this is heavy. I love how brutally minimal the melodic content is compared to how dense the track is. A welcome return!

Man I hope they schedule more European gigs around June/July, I'd love to catch a live show.

So true! I flew to Scotland for Rockness and their triumphant return. Making the trip our west to California was also much fun. One can only hope for some more shows. I'm very happy right now! :D

New Prodigy, Underworld is touring Dubnobasswithmyheadman, new Chemical Brothers and new Leftfield.

Certainly the 90s electronic music scene came raving back into existence, and at least in this forum, it has been received with open arms.

I thought the Audion remix wasn't bad. Nothing remarkable, though, I suppose.

Hi, there! Well, the Prodigy's new songs I listen to are really good, still waiting for the album to come out (arrive) in Argentina. I like Leftfield very much, and particularly the new track now. When is the album due to be released? And yes!, it feels like in the mid-90s, pretty good electronic music to share all over the world! Peace, people!
