I'm not a massive Oasis fan, but a mate of mine is and he collects bootlegs etc

He sent me this, which is apparently Oasis in 1992 or 1993 demoing an early version of Setting Sun, it's only just come to light

interesting, if nothing else

Massive find.

But i think i've read somewhere that the only Chem-song with lyrics where Ed and/or Tom didn't wrote the lyrics to is The Salmon Dance - so what is the story behind Setting Sun?

Well so much for Noel writing with a song to go with what the Chems sent him. That had been my understanding from the interview on the Singles 93-03 DVD. I don't remember him saying he already had a song knocking about and he decided to just re-do the vocal and plop it on top of Tom and Ed's instrumental.

Taking this further, if the song was in fact already written, I can't help thinking that Noel may have actually sent his vocal to the Chems, (or indeed the original Oasis demo for starters), and Tom and Ed then added their bit. I know that's not how the story is told, but it would make more sense - a sort of remix of the original Oasis track.

Vocals sound like a young Noel, only thing not sounding like Oasis is the guitar.

my mate is all over the oasis forums, swears it's legit

the guitars sounds very early oasis, but i have to say the vocals are a bit ropey
thjat could just be because it's a demo

Hmmm... The more I think about this, the more it makes logical sense...

I am not able to watch the Singles DVD at the moment since I am at work atm. Is anyone able to venture back to the Setting Sun portion of the DVD now and see what was said?

It's Liam who is singing.

So perhaps a rough draft of Setting Sun was knocking around, enter Tom and Ed with their "weeeeeerrrrrweeee" sounds. Combined the two, get Noel in there to belt out some god's-gift-to-music vocals and bam. More like a collab.

Maybe we are just Sherlocking this to death, hahah

it sounds like a demo mash up of Whats the story morning glory with setting sun vocals to me. Would someone really go to this extent if it wasnt legit?
Come out from the cold and into the setting sun. It's where it all began for me (not in Afrika), like it was out of control. Then after that life was sweet. So dream on into the pioneer skies of the fourteenth century and rise from the sunshine underground.
