The anticipation for the new album and seeing the brothers live again made me think of the first time I saw them live. It was at the electric factory in Philadelphia in '99, i ate acid and i smoked a blunt right when i got into the concert, passed out and hit my head on the ground, security took me aside but let me stay, thousands of maniacs going crazy all around me, staring at the screen as the music pulsed, felt like i had a hole in my head and I thought the ceiling was on fire, never experienced anything like it, probably never will again, every show since has been just as amazing minus the slight concussion. i'm sure there are probably some better stories out there and i'd love to hear them. here's where to start here's where to begin

i agree its certainly not nesscesary to take drugs in order to enjoy their shows because they are great regardless...the last two times i was sober and enjoyed the shows just as much as the first...i didn't mean to infer that i was only interested in hearing stories about drugs...just retellings of good times had

Ah yes, these are the best sorta memories! My first Chems gig was at the Brixton Academy in '99, we were up on the balcony and I've never seen so many people shake a venue and have such a good time! The Brothers took my breath away with 'Out of Control' and 'Sunshine Underground' my particular highlights.
My second gig was the following Jan at the Big Day Out In Auckland, at which I was very very stoned, but I still managed to enjoy the gig and, yes, I do remember...... most of it X-D My highlights were the very long, exciting 'Hey Boy..' intro and the epic finale of '..Reel'.
Third gig was again in Auckland, when the Chems were touring their 'Come With Us' long player. Great set, shitty soundsystem! That was my first experience of EBW6 and that fantastic 'kicking ass' series of visuals - been, seen, got the teeshirt!
Fourth and most recent gig was at last years Creamfields and as everyone has said before me, it was awesome! That clown was my highlight - pure genius! :D Oh and cheers to all the lovely girls who flashed their boobs to us all before the Scissor Sisters came on! :D
I think of the four gigs, the first was my favourite - I didn't catch the whole set (damn unreliable public transport!), but as some of u might agree, the first experience is often the best! Having said that, the Chems never fail to excite, no matter how many times I see them live :D
Cheers all (sorry about my rant) X-D

My first chemical brothers gig was in jan 2003. I was 15, god knows how i got in!!! They were playing a DJ set at the BomB! in nottingham as part of a glint tour promoting some new stuff.
Has anybody ever been to this club?im not exactly sure how many people you can fit into this venue, but it aint alot. i'd say 400 is pushing it. I think the place was made for the chemicals, its underground and gives the illusion of caverns with really low ceilings, dimly lit, and sort of tunnels with small openings where people stand and drink. The place was heaving never known anything like it, everyone was sweating, little did i kno these things amongst others are characteristic of chems gigs.
The DJ booth is just right there on the dance floor in the corner hardly raised at all which just added to the intimate atmosphere. It was full of die hard fans, there was one dude in the toilets with a motorhead hoody on!their appeal is wide.
they ironically played a really funky mix of come with us as we all descended on to the dance floor fighting for room. the lights were tripping me out and i hadnt even taken anything. Hoops got a good rinsing, and denmark if i remember rightly. They also played a track early on it was strangely funky with the vocal "life is just a game, we're all just the same" it sounded as if it had been lifted from a tune out of the 80's . any1 kno it?
The night climaxed with a re-edit of it began in afrikakakaka booming out, the feeling cannot be explained.
The chems sets always make leave me feeling strangely poignant
That was my first proper clubbing experience EVER.
I knew
I Had Arrived
creamfields '03- tent was far too rammed cudnt breath, security cudnt keep everyone back from the Bugged Out! tent "if you go in, you go in at your own risk" fuck that. peeps were falling over on each other it was stupid.
Creamfields '04- missed the start of the set was out my mind on speed, poppers, weed, grolsch and strongbow, just leant on some random guy for a bit(cheers mate). i had lost my m8s. I remember acid children, and star guitar and vaguely block rockin beats...awesome. i felt like i was in some scene from a film, the chemical generation, it was just everything, felt so incredibly right, in a very twisted way i wanted my family to see there.
but never taking drugs again jus cant remember anything and missed so many good DJ's that day

My first and last CB gig was in Warsaw, Poland. It was tremendous. The visualisation combined with music - just amazing. Although it was a bit short (but when you listen to them, it's always to short). I was with my girlfriend who wasn't a big fan of The Brothers, I was driving my old VW to Warsaw and played all the CB CDs on the way. It's not a surprise that I loved the gig, but she really got into it (she never liked dance music that much, rather Blur and Pulp stuff). I hope Ed and Tom will come somewhere near in the future. Well, Berlin is not that far away

once upon a time, a little boy was strolling down the road when glistening through the shadows lay the smooth rounded edge of a five pence piece. the boy ran to pick up the five pence piece, when, out of the abys a raven swooped and clutched at the silver jackpot, leaving the little boy speachless and depressed as this five pence piece was the ticket to his first meal in weeks, for the little boy was a poor boy, with one arm and a club foot. he also suffured from septacemia and chronic ulsurs.
the little boy looked up to his left through tearing bitter eyes to see the back door of a "brakes, quality food for caterers" van open, beconing him through imagery. the little boy arose and ran at this life raft in the wake. the boy ran, his heart pounding...
stay tuned for the next instalment, it will have you on the edge of your seats...
