I love buying a really good mix cd and then making sure its played really loud so that hopefully my house mates here and appreciate it as much I do. Recentally I have been buying loads of different mixes by different djs which has made me think about which one is the best.

Currentally Im really enjoying 'DE9: Transitions' mixed by Richie Hawtin aswell as 'Fabric live 21' mixed by Meat Katie, these are really good examples in my opnion of great dj sets.

If I was to pick to three mix cds however that really stand out for me they would be the following:

'In Glint' mixed by The Chemical Brothers

'Saturday Night Lotion' mixed by Plump Djs

'Music for the Maases 2' mixeed by Timo Maas

Any ideas on better compilations that are worth picking up?

ahhhh nice topic chap, always a bit partial to a good ol mix.

my faves are:

on a banging tip:

justin robertson - bugged out mix vol 1

fc kahuna - another fine mess

slam - past lessons and future theories

MANDY - body language vol 1

on a more chilled vibe:

tom middleton - the trip (cd 2 especially makes me go all warm inside)

death in vegas - back to mine

zero 7 - back to mine (in fact most the back to mine are really good)

the sunday best compilations

and for a nu-wave rock style thing check out rough trade, Rought Trades Shop Post Punk - see where arctic monkeys, DFA, any band with the in the title etc learnt their craft from ;)

Glad you like it mips!

Im also a fan of: justin robertson - bugged out mix vol 1, I would say the only poor track is that space invaders tune. Im yet to here the dj mag cd with justin and cadged baby. The Felix Da Housecat cd isnt bad either. Talking of Felix Da Housecat, there was a really cool mixmag cd by him recentally thats worth checking out.

I think that erol alkan bugged in mix isnt bad, however I prefere the One Louder cd mixed by him.

Sounds of the Cosmos (really need to listen to this one properly!)

Live at the Social Vol 1

Fabric Live 8 mixed by The Plumps

I really need to check out some new mix cds but I have several albums on my shelf I haven't listened to for months so I'm not too inclined to buy any new stuff at the mo :?.

I forgot to add this one:

Lo-Fidelity Allstars Present 'Abstract Funk Theory'

This one is DA BOMB.

And also check out Tommy Guerrero's Back To Mine mix. Full on 60's and 70's funk and soul records!

Probably one of my fav 'compliations'. ;)

It's just called 'Holes' you know. It's an error on the cover. (Caveman) belongs to the Jimmy Castor Bunch - Troglodyte (Caveman) song. If you look on the back of the cd instead of that cardboard sleeve you'll see it.

Hey ACIDCHILDREN, that Timo Maas Music For The Maases mix is really good, you might have inspired me to pull that off my shelf and give it a good dusting off.

I still need to get Live @ The Social - a friend copied it for me but it's not the same, I want the real deal.

I love the Chems BBC parts 1 & 2 - that was cool!

I don't have that many mix cd's really, which is kind of a shame because that's a great way to get exposed to new music.

One of my favorite mix cd's (and I know I'll get slammed by the Fatboy haters! :P ) is Fatboy Slim On The Floor At The Boutique. What a fun album that is! It's one of those things that's great for when you're heading out with a bunch of friends all piled in the car. It's served us well as the "goin' out" soundtrack.

A mix compilation I'd like to hear again are some of the ones sneakerbeater had posted a long while back, those house mixes. I don't know who the artists were, I just liked what I heard. They were fantastic!
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle
