Let me start by saying I love the Chemical Brothers music. The only track I am not wholly fond of is "dream on". Not brilliantly fond of "the state we're in" either, it's certainly not "alive alone" anyway. However, I prefer both tracks to "the golden path". This track should really be known as "the golden path" by the flaming lips (produced by the chemical brothers). When you listen to their other collaborations, you can tell the track is composed by them, the guest vocals just add to the track. But with "the golden path", there's hardly any chemical influence, it really sounds like a flaming lips record, with the chems putting the odd sound in. It wouldn't be so bad if the flaming lips were good, but I can't stand them, I watched glastonbury on TV this year, I thought maybe I'll see some brilliance in them, but no, they were rubbish. In my opinion. I mean fine, they can make their music, sell it to all their fans, but they've brought it to a chems album now? What is going on? Listen to the other collaborations with 'rock' people (Noel Gallagher, Richard Ashcroft, Bernard Summer - vaguely), the tracks turned out great, because it's obvious the chems wrote them. "The golden path" doesn't sound like it was written by the chemical brothers, it's too much like a flaming lips record for me.

Let the flaming (of me) commence.

We allready discussed this in lots of other threads.

Problem is that some find Wayne a shitty singer and some don't.

I think it's a great song.

But please don't start the I hate anti-wayne's club again.

Funny.. I feel that Dream On and The Golden Path are within Chems' top 5 tracks... (Dream On ties with TPPR for me at 1)
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

i think songs like dream on, the state we're in, and golden path all fall into the same area, they're the ones you'll never hear live, some people like them, others don't... i for one love these songs

Even Otter Rock falls into that category and i think they all are brilliant songs.

It's time for me to retire from "I hate Wayne CluB" and say that the track<<<
Otter Rock has that 60's rock vibe to it. Just chillin with your friends or going on a long road trip that is about to end. Ahhh! Just lovely.....

Never seen the Flips live, it's a shame to base a view on a band, especially a band that the Bros revere and respect enough to collaborate with, on a televised live performance - the sound always seems a bit for shit on those kinds of performances imo. Maybe my ears have a lot of wax in them, but The Golden Path has the Chems written all over it, even though it is a departure from the Chemical norm, I can hear it - the Flips are guests in the Chemical house. When I hear it I don't think "this is a Flaming Lips record" because it doesn't really sound like what the Flips have done recently. Yeah, maybe because it's so different, a different formula, out-there lyrics - such a departure that's what's throwing some people off but I think all aspects of The Golden Path are brilliant. I can understand slagging of the Flaming Lips because you don't like their music or whatever, that's an opinion and like Biff said earlier in another thread, it's kind of like sushi, some people love it, other people hate it and there's nothing that can be done to change minds. What I don't get is people slagging off The Flaming Lips by saying the Golden Path is a Flaming Lips track, not a Chemical track - when they aren't even familiar with the Flaming Lips music (televised performance otherwise) in the first place. :? Why say that, I don't get it. It appears as a Chemical Brothers single, is documented as a Chemical Brothers song, has the lyrics in the Chemical Brothers liners (what's with Chloe Soveigny anyway??)

I hope I don't come across as bitchy. :-// That's not my intention. It's been a long day.

Please let's talk about something positive. Like that kick ass song Get Yourself High which I have currently stuck in my head. Anyone else think the backing vocal breaks sounds quite Beatles-esque?

Get yourself has an awesome bassline and really funky beats. "just get yourself high" was stuck in my mind for like a weak when i first heard it. Hope it comes out as a single with Here come the drums as a b-side.

This may sound a bit naughty, but there's this one part toward the middle of the song in Get Yourself High, real sweeping and grunting and low - sounds like synthesizers having sex!

My Mormon eyes have been soiled by you're impure devil-thoughts! Yes... Kidding

I think this is a great song. Really good one to dance to and I think I got the lyrics half way down. They're really impressive.

On MTV2 Subterranean they were asked if they would do another hip-hop song for the next album, Tom replied "Well ... you never know" those are good odds. I just prey to my Mormon god they put Beth Orton on it. I don't know why I'm doubtful but her songs are always the greatest non-single track in my opinion.

Whirlygirl, I think you kinda misunderstood me, I have heard some studio stuff by the flaming lips, it doesn't make me like them at all. Sorry, but that's my stupid opinion, everyone's entitled to their own. But I am glad for you that you hear a chemical's song, that must make it sound better. I unfortunatly can't hear it, it's just comes through as the flaming lips.

Water under the bridge, as long as it's not a preview of future chemical records it doesn't matter.

Hmm, they should make more records like it doesn't matter :)

No harm no foul, chemicalfan! :) Now that I reread my post (a full night's sleep is 20/20) I realize I came off as a bit bitchy and condescending and what not - I apologize. I suppose I just want everyone to feel what I feel and take what I take, that's all.

I like the track, and given their long absence from the music world, it's far better than the Crystal Method's latest work ("Starting Over" sounds kinda uncomplete).
