Finally got this track playing, bloody mozilla was freaking out so I let my smooth talking IE take place and there it was. Great track for the art really shares that cold metalic mechanical feel to it... I mean that in a good way. But I'd imagine this would sound amazing in high quality stereo, here's to hoping it will be a b-side or album track.

Yeah, I dig this 8)
Wow, when the warp-y synth comes in after about a minute, it's amazing! Yeah, I could totally hear this being played during a Chems DJ set, got a real dark pumping vibe. If this is a sign of things to come, I really cannot wait :)
I love all the little blips and squeals that float around behind the main melody - top stuff, well done Tom & Ed!!

Hmmmm, not impressed. To be honest, I've heard better house tunes on ACIDplanet.com. It's an easy tune to take samples from though. I like the effects in the background, but this sure lacks something. Maybe this needs some vocals by Bobby Gillespie! 'Did I chill... To the Rock Drill?'

Kewl!
I love the long, ominous dragged-out intro that pulses like sonar. The metallic sounds click and buzz their way into the life of the track like electrical currents. And the thick pulsing heartbeat kicks in as the warped synth courses like caustic blood through this now living being. The the track goes through the mechanical motions before the song peters out - and the clicks, beeps and alkaline sounds along with the high pitched sonar signify a machine that has run out of steam but is fatally holding on til the end.
This one is definitely sinister, as what can be expected looking at the subject matter that inspired it. It's different, ominous and almost creepy... all that said I am not sure if I am in love with the song the same way as I am their others, but it's still a good song and something I could hear in a dark gritty club somewhere around 2am. In context I feel it succeeds and even moreso, goes above and beyond the call of duty as far as being a soundtrack to the art it accompanies - I feel that is the most important thing in the end. What I enjoy most about this song is the imagery it conjures up.

:? .....hm...I dont know
maybe its the quality of the recording, but im not really impressed with this song either. Very Swiper like, but I like Swiper better.
Its solid, but not earthshatering.........no pun intended

I think this song will likely have the camp divided - either people will like it or people won't.
Swiper and Rock Drill do have a similar thick dark vibe, a sort of new formula that's different than most other Chems tracks. Perhaps a hint at the future Chems, perhaps not. Since Rock Drill was done to accompany a piece of stark modern sculpture I don't really want to take that out of context and make any wild predictions about where the Chems are headed. But hey, I will take whatever they are willing to throw my way. :)
For me if there was a toss up between Swiper and Rock Drill, I feel Rock Drill has the edge. Rock Drill is a good length for this type of track whereas I think Swiper is just a tad bit too long and meandering (which is very strange for me considering with the Chems, the longer the song the more epic it is).
Anyway, as I said before in my other post I think Rock Drill works in context with the sculpture. They wanted to portray movement in sound because to them the sculpture embodied movement - I think the song succeeds without overshadowing the piece of art it was intended to accompany.
I'm babbling, just throwing thoughts out there. I'm excited to have this song because it means more songs are on the way!

Ee aa!
This is a cool track. :D It follows tha basic techno recipe, but then gets all chemical where it should. I agree with whirly in that I think it's a one-off track for them designed just to accompany the art. But ofcourse it is a chems track, so you can still move to it... and how!
I swear that frickin' robot was reading my mind while I was listening to the track. I felt like it was looking straight into my future but not telling me what was going to happen! X-D
Well done Ed and Tom! 8)

Wow!
This tracks quiet evil.....quiet the way I like it! :D
The effects in the background make it feel like it should be in a horror movie. It is quiet minimalistic but it works well. I actually think its better then Swiper (even though I never got the feel to swiper anyway).
Good work lads!!! 8)
