what i love aboiut reason is its versatility - it has synthesizers, samplers, mixing desk, fx, drum machines etc etc all wired together like a hardware studio - if u can get your head around the wiring of the studio set up in reason your totally set for getting a hardware setup together. it rocks :D
have decided on the efx 500 after checking sneakers video - looks amazing, and exactly whats required - AND its got a midi out for a midi clock so we wil be able to use it to sync ableton to it 8)
currently getting a rock on for the oberheim expander:
the most routable synth known to man, with a tone to die for - - -drool X-D

Err, along the lines of my last post, would any of you people with massive knowledge of hardware be able to recommend any entry-level dual-cd mixer (prefrably not rackmount) in the $200-300(US) range?

This is what I've got mate, does the job! No external outs for the CDs, so no effects available, but it's 2 CD decks (with 10% pitchshift), a mixer, an amp & speakers for less than 200!

At the music store I was playing around with an Access Virus KB and absolutely fell in love. Unfortunately, $3750 is a bit steep...... 8O
More realistically, another store around here has a Roland JD-800 for $675 that I took a look and was interested in. Over 110 sliders and knobs for real-time tweaking! Not to mention there is a program that custom-maps Reason 3.0 controls to the JD-800!

I'll put the Virus TI Polar on the wishlist instead:
http://www.access-music.de/audiodemos/ has the audio demo's of the new Virus TI synths. The Brightside/Darkside collections are what you want to check out. Heavenly!

Weird design, but doesn't sound too bad at all for US$699!!! I'd seriously consider getting one right now if I had the spare cash.

So, it would be someone limited in its use, but would be a mean acid machine.

I wanted one anyway, before Sneaker posted that. Now it would definetly be cooler than cool (ice cold!!!).
Then I can imitate Tom when he goes nuts at the end of The Reel. Love it.

Talking about 303's Propellerheads software are now giving rebirth away for free as they have stopped development of it. You can download it at this site http://www.rebirthmuseum.com/ i do believe it is about 500meg download so broadband would be nice.
