I tested Ableton 7, and the new features are pretty damn hot. The Drum Rack rocks, the Analog rocks (even though it's got nothing revolutionary) the Hardware instrument is cool : you don't need both an audio and a midi track to control an hardware synth and process its audio in Ableton. Tension sounds good too, but I don't really understand all the parameters it has.

Its fine funny myslef and mike were saying we were going to eventually have loads of drum samples to trigger over our loops when p-laying live, this looks just spot on.
What I really want to be able to do we live is hook it up with a normal dj set up and then mix into what is being played on cdjs, trouble is it is difficult with the tapping device to get these intime.

@rich acid
we always found the tap tempo was a nightmare to get stuff in time with vinyl/cd etc
best work around (pre nudge feature) we found was to assign a slider on a control surface to control tempo. when you assign it you can set the min/max temp parameters.
set them for a narrow bpm spread around the tempo you're playing at and then trigger ableton on the beat and just ride the fader back and fourth to correct the mix (a bit like US house dj's do when they're mixing with vinyl) works pretty well.
it's either that or shell out for a red sound midi sync box.

they've re-designed them recently. updated the firmware etc...some of them are now sold under the peavy brand too I think...
yeah they chuck out a midi clock which you can sync ableton etc to. it also has a nudge funciton which lets you get it tighter if it drifts.
from what I've read about them they're good with 4/4 based stuff but can get a bit confused with other time sigs, really complex breaks or if the beat drops out and you've a load pad noises etc..
we've looked into getting one too. it's a question of cash at the moment tho' ...isn't it always!
