i've been bored today, so i had lots of time to scour the internet.

i remember some charlatans fan talking about a track called 'feel the pressure' that the chems have done production duties for the charlatans. so i thought id see if i could find out any more info on the tune.

i did a search on the net and found this site which has a live recording of peel the pressure. if you listen to it, it confims what M'Chebne suggested that the feel the pressure vocal on the confront your demons was the charlatans.

but anyway onto the main news!!! i found a tim burgess interview and below are the highlights

Back for their first homecoming gig proper [not counting last July's Carling homecoming gig at the University] since playing the Arena just before Christmas 2001, The Charlatans headline Saturday night at Move. Since they were last with us, the band have started work on their new album, including two rumoured singles 'Feel The Pressure' and 'Try Again Today' (the former mixed by old cohorts The Chemical Brothers), and Tim Burgess has completed his first solo album, which is due out at the end of next month. So come on Tim, what can we expect at Move? A man needs to be told?

How come you decided to go back and work with the Chems after so long?

I don't know, I think they were motivated by what we did with Wonderland and then they got on like a creative splurge and Jon went down and played some drums on their new record and then we gave them 'Feel The Pressure' [rumoured new Charlatans single] and then I went down and sang on a track on their new record. So 2003 kinda feels like the new 1995.

you can find the whole interview here

so what do the people think??? i think this is great news. the charlatans are one of thoes bands i have great respect for. i have been into their music right from the start of there career when the whole manchester baggy scene blew up. 'life is sweet' is one of the chems greatest collaborations. this is top news!!!!!!

So cool, I remember PeteCharlatan coming by and posting about a future collab of some sort - now it's good to see this is confirmed.

I love the Charlatans, and I think this is fabulous news!! I am really excited about the Chems continuing to work with people who were part of the movement that helped inspire them. Little newsbits like Charlatans going down to the Chemical studio to play drums is really getting me amped for Chemical 5.

This little diddy is from the Charlatan's website:

UP AT THE LAKE - THE NEW ALBUM 23 02 04

The new album will be released in May 2004. The album is called "Up At The Lake". It was concluded yesterday and we expect it to be a 12-track album. The album will be finally mastered next week at which stage we will confirm the track listing.

The album was recorded extensively at our own Big Mushroom Studios in Cheshire, with some extra vocal sessions completed in Los Angeles. The mixing was done at Parr Street in Liverpool, Miloco in London, Mayfair in London and Big Mushroom itself. Production is by The Charlatans and Jim Spencer. Ken Nelson, Jim Spencer and The Chemical Brothers have mixed the songs.

SINGLE - We expect to confirm the new single within the new few days. It will be released ahead of the album in April.

ARTWORK - Is fantastic. We will begin to share it all with you real soon...

I will be waiting for May!! Looks like 2004 is shaping up to be a great new-release year!

So it means, the new Chems album will sound a bit experimental... I mean, combining live drums with electronic sounds...

yeah i was thinking that at work this morning. it sounds really exciting, almost intriguing seeing as tom was the drummer in ariel if i remember correctly.

Oh my god, I can't believe that page is still up!! X-D I wonder whatever happened to some of those listees!

Anyway - the lyrics to Life Is Sweet is one of those ongoing life riddles. Nobody, except Tom, Ed and Tim, knows for sure. Muahaha. I say that site is as close as you're gonna get to solving the riddle.

There used to be a Chem fan site called Pwhffft Peeuuu or something like that, and it had pictures from way back, of Ariel. Just went to check the site: www.algonet.se/~inftryck/chemical so I could link a pic, but the site's down or has finally been retired. Which is a shame.
