Whirly and I were talking about that shooting last night, and I said, 'I heard the guy who did it was asian' and connor chimes in, 'Yeah, that sounds like something an asian would do!'

Now, he doesn't know what the hell an 'asian' is, nor has he any reason to think that they would shoot people. I was torn between explaining why what he'd said was wrong and laughing my ass off.

Oh god, last night was a good one for Connorisms... he was getting out of the bath, and he had his towel wrapped around his waist. He's got this freckle on his butt-cheek, and he was looking in the mirror, and he goes 'I might go out with just this towel on, so people can see my freckle' and I was like, 'it might not be a good idea to go out in just a towel' and he says, 'Yeah, kids might laugh at me, then you'd have to kill them' and I say 'Buddy, if you go out in just a towel, you can't blame kids for laughing at you'.... then he stops talking for about a minute, and goes, 'You still got my back against the cops though?'

I fell on the floor laughing.

Jeez. That is priceless. You need to carry a tape recorder or a notebook around or something. I'm so curious what gems he comes up with when he's with his friends.

X-D I shudder to think of what he says in the company of his friends! It is so hard to imagine that he has a life outside of what goes on at home and I wonder all day what he's doing and what he's saying. So far, no calls from the teacher or principal!!

stash had to give him "the talk" about sex a few months ago. It was really kind of terrifying how it came about, one of those Embarassed Parent type moments. I think it's the moment most if not all parents dread. It all started when we were out to eat with stash's mom and step dad and we were in a crowded restaurant. Connor, for no apparent reason, blurts out loudly "It's like if a girl had sex with a horse!!!" We weren't even talking about anything remotely related to beastiality and we were pretty guarded in our talk about taboo subjects around him, so this little outburst came from absolutely nowhere. I never heard such deafening silence from so many stunned patrons, save for the clink of utensils dropping on nearby tables. X-D

God that stuff in Virginia is horrible.

Horrible horrible. I felt sick when i read it in the paper this morning.

I just spent over an hour reading up on VT - reading blogs, articles. I didn't watch the news last night because it's really a media circus with finger pointing and 'what if's'. When something like this happens, it seems like the words can't come out right. For some reason I found this article so depressing although the subject lived a long life, but the article sort of like it took the cake to every other depressing article I've read with smiling students looking back at me. This old guy here lived and died enduring some of the worst humanity could offer.

JERUSALEM ? Liviu Librescu survived the Nazi Holocaust. He died trying to keep a gunman from shooting his students in a killing spree at Virginia Tech ? a heroic feat later recounted in e-mails from students to his wife.

Librescu, an aeronautics engineer and teacher at the school for 20 years, saved the lives of several students by using his body to barricade a classroom door before he was gunned down in Monday's massacre, which coincided with Holocaust Remembrance Day.

His son, Joe Librescu, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that his mother received e-mails from students shortly after learning of her husband's death.

?My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee,? Joe Librescu said in a telephone interview from his home outside of Tel Aviv. ?Students started opening windows and jumping out.?

Joe Librescu told CNN that one of the e-mails was from the last student left in the room. The student said he looked back and saw his teacher struggling to hold the door, and ?he was torn between jumping out the window and coming and helping my dad.?

?He chose, and possibly made the right decision, to jump out the window,? the son said.

The gunman, identified as 23-year-old Cho Seung-Hui, an English major and native of South Korea, killed 32 people before committing suicide, officials said, in what was the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history.

Librescu, 76, had known hardship since his childhood.

When Romania joined forces with Nazi Germany in World War II, he was first interned at a labor camp in Transnistria and then deported along with his family and thousands of other Jews to a ghetto in the Romanian city of Focsani, his son said.

According to a report compiled by the Romanian government in 2004, between 280,000 and 380,000 Jews were killed by Romania's Nazi-allied regime during the war.

?We were in Romania during the Second World War, and we were Jews there among the Germans, and among the anti-Semitic Romanians,? Marlena Librescu told Israeli Channel 10 TV on Tuesday.

After the war, Librescu became a successful engineer under the postwar communist government and worked at Romania's aerospace agency. But his career was stymied in the 1970s because he refused to swear allegiance to dictator Nicolae Ceausescu's regime, his son said, and he was later fired when he requested permission to move to Israel.

After years of government refusal, according to his son, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin personally intervened to get the family an emigration permit. They moved to Israel in 1978.

Librescu left Israel for Virginia in 1985 for a year sabbatical, but eventually made the move permanent, said Joe Librescu, who himself studied at Virginia Tech from 1989-1994. The elder Librescu, who was an engineering and math lecturer at the school, published extensively and received numerous awards for his work.

?His work was his life in a sense,? his son said.

In Romania, the academic community mourned Librescu's death.

?It is a great loss,? said Ecaterina Andronescu, rector of the Polytechnic University in Bucharest, where Librescu graduated in 1953. ?We have immense consideration for the way he reacted and defended his students with his life.?

At the university, where Librescu received an honorary degree in 2000, his picture was placed on a table and a candle was lit. People lay flowers nearby.

Professor Nicolae Serban Tomescu described Librescu as ?strong and dignified.?

?He had a huge affection for his students and he sacrificed his life for them,? Tomescu told AP Television News.

Well, tonight's well on its way to, I think, Day 7 in a row of 5 AM or later bedtime. Got a little bit of studying in earlier before ducking out for a playoff soccer game, which we got battered in. I had a terrible game: I was dizzy and dehydrated and short of breath the whole game from my cold, had an own goal go in off my foot, etc. Better in the second half but it was far too late by then. So, season's over.

Got back home around 11:30 PM, now I'm showered and settled down and ready to study, but, oh look, it's 12:45 AM already and I'm just really getting going..... Another long night ahead. This sucks.

My ex worked at a coffee and donut place for the better part of 7 years. She was always really gross after work. Sweaty and reeking of coffee grind and yeast. Ugh.

No, but we had sex in the store once when it was closed during renovations (it was normally open 24/7). ;-)

Anyways, no, it was not cool. Ugh. It makes me shudder to think about. And she was always so self-conscious about being gross she was usually in a bad mood until she got cleaned up.

Well, after yesterday's exam, I went out for a couple beers on the patio with some friends, then came home to study and watch the hockey game. Needless to say, my body finally caught up with me and I passed out on the couch from 7 PM to 10:30 PM. Then I woke up, read a novel until 12:30, grabbed a bite to eat, and went back to sleep. Got out of bed at 12:30 PM. It's now 3:30 PM and I'm just finally showered and getting a bit of food to eat. My day is wasted. I really wanted to be productive with this day but I guess I needed some rest.

Now I need to study tonight but tomorrow's exam shouldn't be hard and isn't worth much so I might go study over at a friends place and watch some hockey and have some beerx.

I'm currently losing my hair because of CAML. I don't know if anyone of you ever programmed with this language but it's awful...

I've heard of CAML toe, Ben, but that's a bit silly!

Went out drinking instead of studying last night, came home, had no coffee filters left to do a cold water extraction (which I realized AFTER I'd already crushed and dissolved the codeine), so I studied half-drunk for a couple hours, went to bed. Aced the exam today.

Now I'm sleepy, so I'm probably going to catch a bit of a nap, study while watching hockey, then go celebrate 4/20 and maybe hit a club later.
