dont even waste your money on a kaoss pad. i got one (the first one) and it lives in its box. i keep meaning to put it up for sale on ebay but never get round to it. its a good toy, but not a good tool. its a bit of fun but not for serious execution. the biggest problem i had with it was none of the effects are tempo synced. if you position your finger in the wrong place you can greatly increase or decrease the volume of a track. the unit itself does not sound great. it totally lives up to its name, its chaotic.

the efx 500 on the other hand is a total joy to use. i have had mine for about 15 month. when i first got it i thought the unit was quite simple, but the more i play with it there is a lot of depth of scope with what can be achived with it. i mainly use the effects on the left hand side of the machine, the beat effects. i mainly use echo and delays its amazing what can be done to a tune with these effects. i can create an infinate loop with the delay and chop beats up live, or fuck up vocals. its all good. the transform is cool. a nice effect to use when your in the mix. the pan would be good if you got a large sound system to play on and want to mess with peoples heads!! flange is pretty poo, it like a chav effect imho!! the right hand side of the unit, the jog effects are.... well i don't use them much. zip, ring and fuzz effects i have no use for but jet and wah are okay.

i definately recomend you go down to a dj shop and try the efx out. it costs more than most of the effect units on the market, but you should be able to pick on up on ebay for 200

oh and check this video out, shows the depth of this creature off quite well.

Has anyone tried TRAKTOR 3 from NI yet? I have the 2, the 3 seems to rock even harder with 4 different audio tracks at the same time... Is this considered as a serious tool for DJ's? If you have decks connected to it, that is...

ok, ive had enough of my nord lead 2 and am thinking of replacing it with another analogue synth.

ideally polyphonic, multitimbral would be a pluse, and i would like big bass, dirty leads and etheral pads.

the jupiter 6 looks blimmin gravy, but also expensive.

suggestions on a postcard.....

What's wrong with the Nord? I reckon it's one of the best sounding VA's ever! (without talking silly money)

yeh, its alright - but its got aa weedy bass sound, the leads are alright i guess, and the pads are cool. i think the LFO's are a bit shat tbh, they either way to harsh, or too subtle, u cant link them to midi clock anyway, the arpegiator cant be linked to midi sync, and i dunno, i think its just a bit average - controversial i know :P but i reckon i could get equaslly as phat sounds out the minimonsta or korg legacy pack, and they're soft synths! 8O ;)

I didn't realise the LFO's weren't sync-able, that is pretty poo. But the bass sounds are awesome I've always thought (well, from samples I've heard), I've always been well impressed. Do they still sound krud even after a little EQ?

it does sound better after eq, i mean they do sound alright, its just the filter is really wimpy, on like the 101 u can really feel th bass droppin', if u know what i mean. the nord is alright foir leady type bass lines, but not for thick subby ones, imho.

I'll have to bow to your knowledge there, after all, I haven't played one myself! I don't tend to use the sub-basses too much anyway, I like my bass at the front!

Ok, that doesn't mean a lot to anyone else but I know what I mean :P

Dont normal read this thread. Basically I have a limited knowledge of music technology and use reason a little. Have had a midi keyboard for ages now but havnt really used it with reason. At the moment Im trying to connect my oxygen8 to use with reason and get the most out of it. However I cannot get the midi to work with reason. I was wondering if anyone has any solutions. The lap top recognised the midi input, however reason does not and just says 'no midi input'. I think I may need to install the disk that came with the oxygen8 however cannot find it.

did you check the ports of the midi-keyboard you need to refer?
E(argasm) = m(usic) x c(hemicals)²
