I'm sorry I just heard this - John Digweed playing here in my town tomorrow night - I've never heard this guy except I know he had some collabs with Sasha. Would it worth travelling all the way, it's a bit far. N expensive.

Can folks give me some idea? No good djs ever play this country except the russian/ israeli/ goan trance djs hence I never get to go anywhere - would this be worth it? What kinda tunes does he play? I'm wiki'ing him too, but let me know if you have any personal thoughts.. Would really appreciate.

Thx!

not sure what he plays these days but he always used to lean towards proggy house but like sasha I think he's just as likely to play breaks or tech housey bits too

he runs the bedrock label...looks like their site is down but the messageboard is still running:

have a look on there. maybe download a mix he's done recently and see if it's your bag. search for digweed on the live sets section of this forum:

i think i'll go. did a bit of research n i think it'll be worth the long drive. he played delhi last night n friends haven't still recovered/ woken up to tell me bout his set. this is the best it gets in this country where all kindsa weird russian n israeli djs are the only ones playing.

paul van dyk played last yr, and i still can't forgive myself for missing it, so i think i'm goin today!

thx m'chebne!

I saw Sasha n Digweed in Corbar in NYC couple of months ago.

Didnt really like it tbh / was way to soft and to boring for me.

There are few DJs around who play it hard enough for you, though, Jeanie! :D

Sorry you had a bum time, man. I know exactly how you feel and I'm more with Jeanie and mX on this one. I hate to be a music snob cuz music snobbery never really got anyone anywhere and like you said earlier it is about choices n'all... but yea. Anyway - At least now you know... it stinks the scene in your area isn't as good as it could be.

hehe, i didn't mean choices that way. i'd never heard of the guy before.

just that there's no good electronica scene in india, except some experimentation now happening in delhi n very little in bby. where i stay bangalore, it SUCKS. clubs = mtv hip hop - bpo call center one digit iq people shakin asses to yo mama my mama off mtv, n the rave scene = goa/ russian/ israeli/ all sorts of trance. period. no other electronic scene.

paul van dyk was the last decent (i haven't seen him live but i'm sure he'd be better than dickweed) "dj" that played, n sasha i think in delhi last yr. that's how sad it gets. so this was the closest to i was VERY MUCH hopin to actually get to see somethin resemblin my kind of house music loud n live, n i took the chance. it was not worth it, but the bimbos n the wannabe mtv fucks shook their asses all night anyway.

was boring as fuck - there was not a single interesting part of the experience except my friends, my other friend sid, n the place which was pretty decent wild - n the skies.

i'll stick to my house till i can make it to glastonbury.

haha, n we blasted the chems pinkpop set in my car on the drive back. we almost wanted to paint losers on my car, but then it was my car.

Well hey, you got some eye candy while there and had fun listening to the Chems afterward! Sometimes the comedown can be the upper to the whole night. ;) God bless those Chems for being able to see us through. At least your night/morning did have a couple of redeeming qualities.

I admit to being a snob sometimes, I was kind of snobby a few years ago - but the older I get the less I seem to care. Some music is just face value, it is what it is and that's that. Of course everyone has opinions and that's not bad by any means (not to be confused with snobbery!!)

bah. I'm typing drivel.

I was driving to get my Saturday morning coffee and I blared this song in your honor, JacksRevenge:

Ain't Goin' to Goa

A3

I believe I'm gonna

Shut down my chakras, shift Shiva offa my shelf

Take down my tie dyes, my Tibetan bells

Cool down my Karma with a can of O.P.T.

Ain't no call for Casteneda in my frontline library.

There's one thing I know, Lord above,

I ain't gonna go,

I ain't goin' to Goa, Ain't goin' to Goa now

Ain't goin' to Goa, Ain't gonna Goa now.

Ain't dancin' trance, no thanx, no chance to t-t-tranquilise me.

Ain't sippin' no smart bar drinks, you, that don't satisfy me.

Dosing up my dharma, with a drop of gasoline,

I ain't down with Mr. McKenna, tantric mantra talkin' don't move me.

I don'tn need no freaky, deeky, fractal geometry, crystal silicon chip.

I ain't walking on lay lines, reading no High Times put me on another bad trip.

Timothy Leary, just check out this theory,

he sold acid for the F.B.I.

Well, he ain't no website wonder, the guru just went under,

you can keep your California Sunshine.

'Cos the righteous truth is, there ain't nothing worse than

some fool lying on some Third World beach wearing

spandex, psychedelic trousers, smoking damn dope

pretending he gettin' consciousness expansion. I want

consciousness expansion, I go to my local tabernacle

an' I sing with the brothers and sisters

WhOA! I so totally feel that way.

u won't believe how xenophobic the general public is. white skin, followed by slightly different israeli/ german/ whatever the fuckforeign skin, in goa's, god. it rules goa. u get treated like an outsider by some goan losers, unless u prove u'r cool enough. what bull. almost everyone of those hippies lying in goa or manali's a fuckin loser.

same with tim leary. i've always hated the mofo, he's got no substance, like most things american. u hit the spot with those lyrics, thank you whirly! ;)

tho i do absolutely love this one band called infected mushroom. i've been wanting to suggest it to u for a long time - converting vegetarians, the other side. that's the album where i actually fell in love with a trance band. because maybe also that disc wasn't really goa trance. they converted me alright.

but honestly - give it a spin n a bit of time, n i believe they reached that ace level of musicmanship fit for a very few rulers. it's definitely got psy trance shades because of their roots, but it doesn't matter, they'r so bang on with everything on that album - the composing, the production, the sounds, fuck i absolutely love their sounds - their proper signature mushroom sounds. bouncy jumpy fucked up all over the hills. the layering is so insane. n the lyrics rock. the woman michelle adamson who sings on two songs - she rules. hear that attitude in her voice.

fuck this could qualify in buzzed posting i can go on the whole night bout this album. but it's 2am here n i've gotta go think of dinner. thank god for mercies.

n it's got a song called tim leary. 8)
