I think ElectronicBattleWarrior can give you some tips on sumggling in your recording equipment!! ;)

You wouldn't believe what that kid went through to get everything into Coachella. It was legendary how he pulled it off! I was seriously in awe when he started unloading all his gear. It was like a magician who kept pulling rabbits out of his hat!

that's the thing man, recording a gig is not allowed ;)

hide your microphone when you enter, put it in your underpants or something. I think a video camera is to big to be hidden.

whirlygirl> if ElectronicBattleWarrior could do a tutorial with photos of how he does, I think everybody here would be happy :D

you're not allowed to take pictures, but they normally let you enter with a small digital camera.

Stephen Escribi:

thanks foxboy!

I also use a minidisc with a small sony microphone which has a very good quality. I think any mic should work with a minidisc recorder if it has a small jack plug. But remember not to take a too big mic because you'll have to hide it.

Thx for this info ! :)

Do you have any type number for this mic ?

Like qaulity or something?

Im not quite sure what your talking about

The mic is built into my mp3 player and it would run for about 4 or 5hrs without dieing

and i think it goes at somethin like 128kps or something.. if you tell me what to check or what im looking for ill try and help you out

But when i record other than that the qaulity is quite good :/

I don't have the mix right here so i don't have the reference number, but it looked like the Sony ECM-719 (picture >here<).

Foxboy - don't jump around too much whilst recording (or at all if possible) and don't shout to your friends during tracks either.

Those are the two of the things that distinguish a good bootleg from a bad one.

I was thinking about that myself.. Ill try my best not too, its my first time goin..so itll be kinda hard and im going to coldplay next week so ill practise it there :/

But all in all, im not aiming for this to be like a really good bootleg for collectors or w.e i just want the song to be heard and i mean if i cant help but shout then aw well, but as i say.. ill try not to let it effect the recordin ;-)

Since ElectronicBattleWarrior isn't around much these days, I'll explain how he got everything in.

First, his mp3 recorder was professional quality and quite a bulky piece of equipment, about the size of a full sized tissue box. EBW cut away a tissue box, put the recorder inside, then covered it with tissue. Since EBW had a bad cold, security didn't seem to question why he was taking in his own stash of kleenex!

EBW also stuffed various items down his shorts. You should've seen him pulling everything out of his pants once inside the venue (there's a pic of him reaching in the Coachella thread) Wish I had quicktime video of that, it was hilarious, like what's this kid doing with his whole arm down his pants?? X-D

Now the brilliant part.

EBW had a mess of wires and chords he needed to smuggle in, but only so much would actually fit into his pants. But that's OK. He borrowed a sling from a classmate at school, and concealed the wires inside. When he got to security, they waved a metal detector wand over his arm and of course the detector went off. EBW explained that he was helping his parents paint their house and that he'd fallen off a ladder, broke his arm, and had to have pins set in. Security bought it and let him through. X-D

When I first saw EBW, I thought, "Oh poor kid, he told me he had a cold but he didn't tell me he broke his arm!" But lo and behold, off came the sling and ton of wires and chords fell to the ground.

And that's the elaborate mp3 recording smuggling plan of ElectronicBattleWarrior. I was in awe at how well he pulled that one off!

EBW's smuggling scheme is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. Definetly one of the highlights of that weekend. Such a shame the recordings didn't really turn out.

Egads, I just got horrible mental theater of Foxboy ripping all the hair off his leg in an attempt to detatch the cellotaped mp3 recorder!!

It would probably work, though. Might be painful then again, you'd do anything for the Chemical Brothers, right? RIGHT??? ;)

I don't know what security is like over there - but here it depends on the venue. I've been to some places where you have to walk through metal detectors, get frisked, and then have security wave a metal detecting wand from head to toe before they let you in.

Every time that happens, I think it's not as bad as when I used to go to raves where they did everything short of a crevice search and made everyone remove their shoes as well. It got to the point where I'd wear 20 hole boots just so security would shake their heads and say "nevermind, that looks like too much trouble" and let me through.

Well depending on how much tape i use.. is how much its gonna hurt... but yeh.. i would do anything for the chems if that was the situation. I want to record the gig, not only as a souvenir, but so i can send it to some people on the forums who are interested.. so if theyres too much shouting.. Arwh well.. but if not.. then Sweet.. but i mean i couldnt tell some guy beside me, that i didnt know.. to stfu :P

Gosh... A metal detector ?!!

Were you going to see the Chems or the President of the USA ?! Sometimes, I think that security during live performance is overreacting...

BTW, nice story :)

EBW is indeed a warrior !!
