It's only been a few weeks and yet this CD is already not a mainstay in my collection. I hate to compare it to the Chem's WATN, but I kept that album on high rotation for months and still listen to it frequently. This one, not so much. It all comes down to Divided By Night's guest vocalists and overall pop driven sound as determined by the vocals. It's a shame, becasue many of these tracks are pretty solid. I would love to hear many of these as instrumentals with most of the lyrics and vocals stripped.
Somoebody recently mentioned the "guest vocalist" trend in another topic and I personally am not a fan. Yes, the Chem's have been very smart and successful with their choices, but I would even like them to scale it down a bit. We've been very lucky with their overall process, style, and decision making regarding collaborations, but they always tend to stand out in the crowd.
I understand it is all about the cash revenue and cross-promotion, but hey, TCM, what do we have to do to get some solid beats without a poppy female vocalist or a male hip hop rapper on top of a thumping track?!?

Same thing may very well happen with Simian Mobile Disco's next album.
Bah.
I haven't picked up Divided by Night, mostly because I don't want to be disappointed. I want to remember The Crsytal Method for the great tracks of the past, and I guess until they come out with something undeniably amazing, they'll remain off my must-listen list.

i will admit there are a couple of songs with the guest vocalists that bring the album down (such as black rainbows, kling to the wreckage and slipstream)
However the rest of the album is pretty solid. There are some undeniably classic songs that are reminiscent of all their previous albums. In particular Blunts & Robots, Smile and dirty thirty.
I like the album, but im inclined to agree that TCM should of used less guests. Probably should of just done the whole album with Peter Hook lol

Thanks for the link Kermit. Hearing it finally for the first time - absolutely love Kling to the Wreckage on first listen - I just didnt get why people didn't like it above me.
This man never ceases to amaze me. I fell in Warfield(he's still the coolest man to rap - not another drugstore) with his collabs with the chems, the remix of bring the pain, and everytime this guy surprises me with his complete versatility. I could never guess this is Warfield having heard just his earlier stuff with the Chems. Rocking.
Onto song 2 - I've been hearing Drown in the Now since Henry sent it along a month back, and I think it's the coolest big beat song in ages - this dude Matisyahu rocks.
I hope the album keeps up.

For some reason, the more I listen to this album, the less I like it. Black Rainbows is terrible as is Slipstream. For what it's worth, Divided By Night is a nice modern electronic album, but it has no tracks that I really really like. And although my opinion is not shared on this, I still don't think they'll top Tweekend. That remains one of my favorite albums to this day.
