in no particular order and with inevitable omissions courtesy of my failing memory:

1.

midlake - roscoe (wizards sleeve version)

the original was released in 2006 so I'm going to cheat and use the wizards edit from 2007

which is also ace. a beautiful song and permenantly stuck in my head

2.

faze action - in the trees (carl craig remix)

I could pick a top ten of carl craig tracks from 2007 easily (junior boys, tony allen,

tiefschwarz, siobhan donaghy mixes?) but I'll plump for this one - the originals a classic

but carl takes it to the next level. rolling beats, vamping synths and then he drops the

strings. and everybody melts.

3.

mark e - r'n'b dunkie

an old janet jackson record (which samples an old boogie record)cut-up and teased for the dancefloor. nothing flashy but made me dance and grin like a fool.

4.

LCD Soundsystem - the sound of silver LP

I thought the first album was well overrated and told anybody that would listen. this shut

me up. brilliant record. all my friends being the highlight for me. the 1st proper track off

the 45:33 is amazing too

5.

anything by matt edwards (radioslave, rekid and 1/2 of quiet village)

couldn't pick one track but his radioslave stuff gubbins is ace and the quiet village stuff

is mind blowing too. very talented chap.

6.

partial arts - trauermusik

big ewan pearson fans round here. this track of his (with partner al usher) is one of our

faves. great emotive techy house. reminds me of a perfect weekend over the summer. friends

came down, we went record shopping, found this and was bowled over, went to the pub, came

back cooked dinner and spent the rest of the night drinking and listening.

7.

a mountain of one - brown piano (studio remake)

just.plain.ace

8.

tracey thorn - it's all true

ewan pearson, sasse & darshan from metro area on production and traceys voice. KILLER cowbell too.

9.

pier bucci - hay consuelo (samim remix)

one of my fave house records of recent memory and nothing like that damn heater track. just

an ace slinky groove.

plus:

etienne jaumet - repeat again after me (Ame Remix)

metro area - read my mind (dub)

radioslave - in rainbows LP

maps - to the sky (the loving hand version)

burial - untrue LP

beck - cellphones dead (mixes)

baby charles - debut LP (mips at the controls)

and loads more I've forgotten

Best Dj:

no idea. erm - derrick may was pretty special earlier this year.

Best Producer:

1. Carl Craig - the don. no question

2. two fellas called thomas and edward. other worldly trippy production, great SONGS, killer

beats and nobody works a synth like our boys. STILL

Best Live:

1. the chems

2. bat for Lashes @ Koko blew me away - what a voice. have to admit I slept on the album

but the mrs is a big fan and dragged me along. mesmerizing.

3. son of dave @ bestival. briliant

Best Set:

ignores obvious schoolboy gag.

maurice fulton at bestival. all my mates were there, the sun was shining and maurice was

laying down some fierce disco. big grins all round.

Best Festival:

1. bestival - about 20 mates and pure sunshine and bad behaviour.

2. glastonbury - the muds always a pain but you can't beat the vibe at glastonbury

Best Club Night:

god knows. been clubbing a lot less this year - KINGPIN bristol - top booking, lovely people and always a great atmosphere (that alright dave?)

Chemical Brothers highlight:

1. The joy of hearing album and realising it was a killer. still doin' it

2. Live this year. esp brixton which was ace

I went to one concert only (hearing live bands who are mediocre at best while bar hopping is not notable!!) and that was the Chems at Nocturnal. I'm not really bothered all that much about the lack of seeing live gigs because getting to see the Chemical Brothers always makes up for lost time and shows.

Nocturnal was of the best nights of my life. Period. Everything from me and stash meeting up with Pooter, Biff and Bosco and getting to hang out with them before, during and after the show. Having drinks and getting a lil sloshed with them at the rooftop bar of the Standard hotel before heading out to the show, managing to keep it together without getting seperated during the gig (it's not like we could actually move anywhere), getting turned around afterward on our way to the backstage area and going in the completely wrong direction, having my online name shouted at some cop for no apparent reason (haha), heading back to the hotel afterward to raise a glass... Finally meeting Errol was really special. He is the nicest guy and when you talk to him it feels like you've known him for ages. And the cherry on top was meeting Tom and Ed who are just nice, gracious and welcoming in person as you'd suspect them to be - they are all around great guys. Had some great conversations with Ed, he's cool as. Also getting to meet some of the people behind the gig scenes like Stuart was great, too. Everyone was so sweet, I was really touched by it all.

I missed out on Coachella last year which is my live band fix, but hope to make up for it this year (so long as the Chems are playing!)

Lots of other little memories play out in my mind from last year. When Do It Again was released, we couldn't find it for sale anywhere around us so we drove up to Los Angeles on that Tuesday night and picked up a copy at Amoeba, then got in the car and drove home blasting the cd in my stereo.

Our son went to visit with stash's dad and stepmom for 2 weeks in the summer. When we got him back, I took him to the store and We Are The Night was playing in the car. My son said, "You know, I kind of missed hearing these songs when I was gone visiting Papa."

Of course there are other things that made up our 2007, but they aren't all music related and it wouldn't be terribly interesting for me to jot those events down in here...

AHHHH! Whirlaaay! Such an awesome night.

I'd put that weekend, the combination of the SF show and the LA show as the best of 2007 for me. :)

The best festival for me was Awakenings in Holland. JEANIE! MIPPIO! YEAH! Oh, so amazing, and oh so amazing. Reaching for the fireworks through laz0r static was one of the highlights of my life.

Soulwax also rocked my world last year... God I love them so.

I think 6 Chems shows (live and DJ sets including the Beth Orton live at Electric Proms and also Traf Sq with all me forum lovelies), one Underworld gig, 2 Daftee Punkee shows (within a week of each other), 1 guest list entry to the Jaxx at Brixton, 3 Plumps sets, 1 old skool Fatboy set, finally saw Soulwax Nite Versions and actually enjoyed a Groove Armada show as well as attending a plethora of muddy and not so muddy festivals had me a good un last year. (Missed out on seeing Phil Hartnoll and Paul Daley cos I HAD to get Glasto tix the morning after they appeared at Turnmills tho - boo!)

Carrying the party on in 08...flying to Sydney 8 weeks tonight, get off the plane and head straight to the Sydney Entertainment Centre for Chems show number 1 in 24 hours...heading to the Future Music Festival the following day!

Teehee! Festivals my love...plenty of fests! And just a bloody lucky year for all my fave performers all playing one after the other...

oh forgot...saw Underworld TWICE!!! Silly me!!! HOW could I forget that???

Tbh...I dont think I had THAT busy a year...a year out in Oz is going to be quite chilled tho compared to the previous one. Got to wait 9 months til the Oz fest season re-starts...ok so IF I had the cash I would seriously consider a rather silly trip to Coachella (to add to the silly trip back to Blighty I already have planned to come back for a couple of weeks to see the Olympia show!!!)

Heyho! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Oh shit. If you come across a large wad of cash and you want to come out to California for a few days around Coachella time let me know - the welcome mat is out!!

Whirly, your biglongpost up there was just AWESOME. Pure AWESOME. Maaaaaaaaaaan I wanna do that too. Curse my youngness! I am finally free of the annoying part of it, though! Freeeeee!

Also; wish my parents listened to the Chems when I was a kid. =D Then again, I dunno if I'd like them as much if they did, soooooo...
