Happy Birthday, Ed!

I went to 2 Chems DJ sets this year, front row for a total of 5 hours, and both Tom and Ed were having a ball. I saw them in a whole new light.
In their live shows they are working with so much equipment that they don't have a lot of time to work with the audience, but at their DJ sets I was in total awe at how much they were both getting into it and having so much fun. Both of them really reached out and touched the crowd.
Honestly, I wonder if you are talking about the same guys. And yeah, wrong thread for this argument FFS. Sorry Ed, and Happy Birthday again!

For what it's worth I think it's good to apologize. It makes a man the better man.
I hope what you said on the last page isn't true that you are going to stop listening to the Chemical Brothers because you aren't happy with the last couple of tracks. You're within your right to not like every single thing Tom and Ed do.
But seriously. The worst birthday wish ever would be to say you were gonna stop listening to the Chemical Brothers!

Ah, now I see where you might coming from. I wasn't pleased with "Nothing but Pleasure" as well, in fact couldn't stand it and said so here on the forums. But at no time it evoked any connotations of poor future chems music or anything related that might be on the horizon. I really liked the Hanna OST, the velodrome song was also quite nice and suitable for a cycling theme. Nope, I'm not able to see this kind of black smoke of pessimism so far.
And as for the dj set. Well, I wouldn't be thrilled all the time either. No day's like the other. But I do concur that the behavioral attitude of audiences has been going downhill since the mainstream utilization of smartphones an the like.
And btw, to stop listening to great music (what ever this might encompass) is like giving up on eating good strawberry cakes just because of one stale strawberry in the past.

Just keep in mind, judging their future work based on Through Me/Nothing But Pleasure is like judging their future based on some obscure b-side like Buzz Tracks or The Rock Drill. Plus, it was a solo release, and those typically are different from the band's normal body of work.

Too much strawberry cake is bad for you. I don't want to have any weight issues. LMAO

I tend not to listen to the chems that much though. Cause it makes feel like a bad muscian compared to their abilities to produce amazing songs.
Happy Birthday Again Ed.

Oh boy, if this reasoning had been true for me, I would have given up on them since the release of Swiper ...
And btw, I really like the fact, that Tom's solo projects sound quite different from the "natural" chems sound. It gives me the feeling that the band and their unique sounds can't be separated from another.

Yeah, and they're not even Chems releases. It's Tom only. And that said, his RAW re-interpretation of I Break Horses' Hearts was top notch.
Superflash, on the other hand, sounds fine as it is to me.
