I keep considering buying it, but I kinda want to hold out until he works out the licensing issues with "I'm Excited" so I can listen to it in full.

Here it goes!

First the bad news!

The album tries to hop around different genre's, so it tends to be a hit or miss on the first half of the album , but the Shadow does hit on the head such as the textured 'Tedium' and the lush 'Scale it Back'! Some tracks are too long and become tedious, and the album feels like it should've been 2 CD's, because the tracklisting makes it obvious that the 2nd half of the CD is the one that the fans want to hear...

And this is wear the good news comes in:

Those who been wanting back that 'shadow sound' can be happy about 'Circular Logic' and 'Redeemed' as well as the year old, but still flexing its muscle 'Def surrounds us' (which is the best track on here)Finally, 'Let's Get it' brings back the banging ol'school mixtape sound to an album that almost lost a last impression to the fans who stood by for a long time!

And now for the scorecard...Scale of 1 to 5....5 being the best!

Back to Front *4
Border Crossing 2
Stay the Course 2
I've Been Trying 3
Sad and Lonely * 3
Warning Call 2
Tedium 4
Enemy Lines 2
Going Nowhere (interlude)
Redeemed * 5
Run for Your Life * 4
Give Me Back the Nights (interlude)
I Gotta Rokk * 4
Scale It Back * 4
Circular Logic * 4
(Not So) Sad and Lonely (interlude)
Come on Riding 1
Def Surrounds Us *5
Let's Get It *5

* = asterisk indicates a track with the 'shadow sound'

Well, I will give it a try if I finally find it. I loved The Private Press more than Endtroducing so I expect some surprises...And no to the 2CDs albums idea: it´s usually nothing more than a vehicle for self-congratulation, artists should practice more the art of precision...

Bullshizer. Just because an artist creates lots of work doesn't mean it's going to be weak like connecting multiple bulbs to an AA battery powered circuit (each bulb representing a song). I don't think the phrase "quality not quanitity" works in the medium of art because it all depends on the artist. Some just have a natural talent for creating amazing music without putting any work in, where as others have to work harder to get that same level. It doesn't mean the harder working artist isn't as good, it's just he has a different method. I remember listening to an interview with Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft on how hard it was to come up with new songs and he just told it like it is and said he didn't have to work at it, it just flowed and they end up sounding great.

Shoot... I was kinda hoping that once the album came out he'd stop playing the Shadow Remix Project stuff. Not that it's bad, it's just... he was already doing a great job remixing his stuff live. I don't want to hear someone else's interpretation of his music when I go to his show.

Saw Shadow live a month ago and he was in good form!

I've given "Less You Know.." a number of listens and I can safely say it is a BIG improvement over "The Outsider". I disagree that the album is divided into two distinctive halves. It is hit or miss on a lot of tracks. Most of the high points tend to embrace the sound that Endtroducing made him famous for, but some tracks where he extends himself end up working too. However, there are a number of failed experiments here.

Following INCHEMWETRUST's example, I'll re-rate the tracks (the way I see them)

Back to Front *4 - Good vibes, calibrating indeed.
Border Crossing *2
Stay the Course *3 - I like this better than most rap tracks he's produced.
I've Been Trying *3
Sad and Lonely *3
Warning Call *2 - no...
Tedium *5 - Reminds me of the "What Does Your Soul Look Like" tracks
Enemy Lines *5 - Simple, but maximum vibe here....See above comment...
Going Nowhere *4
Redeemed *4 - This track could have gone a lot further than it did. It feels kind of incomplete to me.
Run for Your Life * 3
Give Me Back the Nights *5 - This is gonna sound crazy, but I thought this simple track was exceptional.
I Gotta Rokk * 4
Scale It Back * 4 - I like it, but It's kind of a black sheep on the album.
Circular Logic * 4
(Not So) Sad and Lonely *3
Come on Riding *5 - I think this is one of the best track's I've heard since "The Private Press". Evokes "Six Days"
Def Surrounds Us *5 - YES!
Let's Get It *4
