Twice in a row at Turnmills after 3 months for a 3 hours set, Londoners new years eve with the best of freestyle dust.
How amazing this boys are, The Chemical Brothers, thanks for playing on NYE, I had to work myself, got there when Get Yourself High was shaking walls from outside already, what a great show.
Come on, who was there?
Anybody got pictures? I'll try to upload a couple here later. They don't really like their picture taken I believe coz it's a big light flash in the night, so I have just a few.
Feedback please
Cheers and Happy New Year!

The main room turned into the usual scrum so when they finally opened the hall of mirrors we retreated there, the sound is nowhere near as good (no real bottom end) but I go clubbing to dance....not stand on the spot bobbing whilst being barged about.....
the boys appeared in the booth around 11.00 and by about 20 past the familar aliens landing sound that opens their dj sets (EMS synthi?) was ringing around the acid sweatbox that is turnmills and we were off!
they were on good form and knocked out the usual squeaky acid jackers:
music:response
that automat track off "....demons"
shriekback "my spine is the bassline" (chems edit)
prince 'controversy'
chems mix of slow at midnight after an electronic voice counted us down to midnight!
emmanual top 'labotamie'
sandels 'feet' slam mix (chems edit)
sabres 'smokebelch' (chems edit)
golden path
star guitar
sgt pepper edit
HBHG original electro mix
dj milo/impulsion cut up
out of control
EBW 6
under the influence
nude night
that acid tune that me and mippio want to to know the name of!!!
mr robertson was also on fine form playing chuny funky tech (including that brett jonhson tune on magnetic.....dirt!) and the switch remix of GYH....did anyone else notice his name was printed on the tickets as justine robertson???
a lovely night in one of my fave places in the world to jack....

did you venture into T2?? i've always had a good time when i've seen CJ Machintosh play at turnmills. i know he is not acid house and more funky, but as he recorded M/A/R/R/S pump up the volume, he will always be a legend with me. i the first time i heard 'layo and bushwacka - love story' CJ dropped it inT2 nov 01.

yeah a wicked night.......as the club was starting to get rammed I was getting a little worried that they weren't gonna open the hall of mirrors room. I remember a few nights at the old heavenly jukebox when it was closed and it ruined the night for me.....too packed.
you know I can't work out how long they were on for....I was a bit battered to be honest...tunes no problem but concept of time is a bit tricky ...I'll ask my mate mippio since he's now mr clean living....
yeah I had a quick shuffle around in T2, not sure who was on really early on.....didn't go near the booth but it was skippy vocal house which isn't really my bag....I'm more into deeper chicago stuff, a bit more jackin'....would've liked to see lottie really but I guess she must've clashed with the chems...
actually mid way through justin's set he went a little bit too techno for the time of day so we had a quick groove about in T2......was wicked funky electro-y tech house....could well have been CJ then but again I didn't venture near the booth.....was just looking for a pocket of space to dance in...
what did you get up to? - I thought you'd have been at turnmills to see the chems?

i must admit i never been that bothered with justin robertson. i've got his bugged out mix cd which was great. but when ever i have seen him play i just find it... just a bit hard. the kinda music that works up north.
as for your journey to T2 that "wicked funky electro-y tech house" could only be CJ Machintosh. what a dj!! he's the only dj i know that me and my mates can all get into, which is quite a feat.
Did you notice the new sound system in the main room?? i was at turnmills a couple of weeks back and thought it was quite sweet. but i'd really love to hear the chems tests it!!!
Would be nice if there would be more at least one more glint party before the album drops. i will definatly be able to make it to that!

yeah I did notice the soundsystem was sounding good, although I put that down to it being early on and the club being fairly empty. it's come on leaps and bounds since I first started going there thats for sure....
know what you mean about justin robertson - I've heard him play some wicked house inflected sets (like the start of his set NYE) and also some hard as nails militant techno - which is a bit brainless really....gotta have the funk in there...how anyone spends all night listening to the likes of hawtin etc is beyond me.
yep agreed a glint party in the new year would be spot on - maybe in the lull before the festy season kicks off.......then we can look forward to them headlining the pyramid stage at glasters again (come on mr eavis you know it makes sense!!!)

to bad they dont do secret partys in the US * pouts * :o
It would be cool for them to do a secret gig here in the US, or a surprise gig somewhere - but I suppose it makes more sense for them to do that in England. Less travel time and wear and tear!
After Come With Us came out, I read in one of the various magazines they were on the cover of, about some secret gig they did in San Diego California a few years back. I don't think it was so much a secret but more a private party. But not any old private house party - if memory serves me right it was some private party with a, er, fetish twist.

ABSOLUTELY SPANKING!
Really good set, I liked alot.

ha! (pulls on dirty drum rollie, lugs can of special brew) clean living!! . . . i havent showered for at least 2 days . . . ;) seriously, dunno how long they were on for, probably about 4 hours I think.
and if anyone knows the name of that acid tune they play, me and mr mchebne would be delighted if you could pass the info on!! (it sounds a bit like the bassline to alexander robotnik i suppose (they played that top!), but a bit more walking. and cheeky)

I tried google searching around for it but with no success. But I swear on my own life that I didn't dream that one up!

The twisted side of me wants to know the goings on, and better yet what they really thought of it all when they were packing up their crates to go home!

(:-// I ought to know this already... but... :-//)
...just who was that divine creature in the DJ box w/ the Chemical Brothers? There were at least 3 other DJs: one minus eyebrows, one w/ a thin trace of a goatee, and then another... know the one I mean? The one who ushered in the New Year w/ his raging (fog) horn and blew it so loudly it caused Tom to writhe and clutch his earphones in delicious agony. Was that Justin Robertson? I thought he wore glasses? They were all shorn, t'was difficult for me to tell them apart. I think he had on a tee that read "turbo onions" or something... but I'd had a red bull and vodka or 3 and could've imagined that part.
Somebody, anybody know???
I'm besotted. He was a god. 8)
