Don't worry, mx. I know you don't mean any harm.

I suspect one day, my son will be turned on by Princess Leia. I'll know it when he takes his Star Wars comics into the bathroom, or watches over and over, the Return of the Jedi scenes with Leia in that skimpy outfit on Jabba the Hut's barge. ;)

Stash, you're answers on everything seem right so far, but i can only pretend im christian so much considering all of friends know my true religion. Oh and also, NONE of the girls in my youth group are mildly hot :( .

yeah, but they're really young, right?

It generally takes until they're about 16 before christian girls really start to rebel.

You can also think of my advice from this prespective: By pretending to be a good christian, you'll actually be forced to at least listen to their ideas, and maybe some of them will make sense.

Not much hope for that, IMO, faith isn't something you can teach someone, except when they're tiny children. Once you lose it, it's like no longer believing in Santa Claus... you can't teach an adult to believe in Santa...

and robot, I wanna go home, even when I leave here, i still gotta fricken hour drive home.

FlamingDead, you poor kid.

I feel really bad for you - I can tell you don't want to defy your parents, you want to be a good kid, but you don't like that they're setting all these boundaries (no less, religious boundaries on you.) And you don't like that they aren't allowing for not only religious freedom, but intellectual freedom - opening up your mind.

I think most parents must forget what it was like to be a young teenager. I remember being 13, and it was so hard. You're just discovering who you are, what makes the world go round, and where you might fit in with all this. Plus you've got raging hormones, your body's changing, your body chemsitry is all out of whack (though I think it's worse for girls) And to top all that off, you are very impressionable only because you're trying to figure out where you fit in. It's a tough age. Gawd.

You can't choose your parents, unfortunately. And you're living under their roof. They are your parents, so I do think they're trying to do what they think is best, as supressive as it is, and no matter how messed up we think it is. I think they realize you're at an impressionable, easily influenced age and they are trying very hard to set boundaries - should you sway.

Well - to be honest, life with my parents growing up... it really sucked. I won't go into my upbringing n'all, since I don't care to divulge that aspect of my life over the internet on a public forum. But basically I had to think of creative ways to get out from under their thumb. And to this day I don't think I've fully succeeded in doing that

I developed a lot of hobbies, which if you think about it are strategies in the sense you are using them as a means of escape - well, if you're like me, anyway. I played music, listened to music, drew constantly, and spent lots of time reading and studying. I babysat for people in the neighborhood, I joined a human rights organization. Anything to give me some amount cash, and some personal control of my actions, and still show that I was responsible and stuff. Everything I believed or experimented with as far as religious things go - I pretty much kept to myself. I am thankful for my parents not being sticklers with me like they were with my older brother!

sigh. Such is the nature of dealing with the parental unit!

I feel kind of silly responding to this, especially since 'stash is on his way home n'all. But it's Friday, it's pouring rain, and I'm bored.

So - I don't think faith is something that's taught. Belief is closely aligned with faith, but they aren't the same thing. Even to tiny children whose minds are like sponges, they take in and retain a lot more than we realize, but I still don't think children can't be taught faith, because at that age they are mimicking what they've had impounded into their brains, and they are told what to believe and in some cases, to follow blindly - this has never equated faith, to me anyway. You can teach someone about religion, but I think faith is something deeper and imo should be more personal. I find it kind of disturbing actually, when I see children who are devoutly religious. It's like they're going through the motions rather, when children should be encouraged to be inquisitive - when they ask "why" and "how" over and over to the point where it makes you want to scream, it's them wanting to know answers, because to children, everything is infinate unless you finally tell them "no, that's the way it is, and that's final." Which most dogmatic religions do - that final word of God thing. And it's not proper to question the word of God, since that's the final word.

Anyway. I think adults later in life can experience things that make them have faith. An experience may be minor but it could be the foundation for which other minor experiences build - or some of the more exteme experiences may be life changing. It doesn't have to be faith in God, but it can be faith in what they do, faith in someone they love, faith in themselves, maybe even faith in an idea.

:? It's late and I'm tired.

X-D Cooties are made-up reasons for young children of different genders to be scared of each other. imagine it as a kind of disease or "germs" or something.

By the way thanks for all the help, Stash and Whirly.

:x You know you could just NOT READ THIS! Why the fuck are you complaining?, its not like this thread's existence affects you in any way, or ruins your "message board experience". Furthermore, i'm not asking for YOUR advice. You can ignore this thread if you like, but you have no reason to complain about it.

It may not be the correct thing to do but who cares, make sure you take as many opportunities as you can to pull girls before settleing down.

anyway any advice i would give someone younger than me. enjoy your youth, the older you get the more serious life gets, i really wish i was a teenager again!! and surround your self with good friends.

i just don't see your point man! I mean you should go join christian family counselling forum rather than chemical brothers forum. This has remotely nothing to do with music in general. I don't want to be a hipocrit as I too have started many useless threads but none of this bullshit nature.

other than that peace :)

chemicalreaction - ease up man, FlamingDead is just a kid! I agree I was surprised to find a topic like this up here, it has nothing to do with music but it was probably a matter of time before another thread got derailed and some of us ended up talking about this. ;) And I think it's kind of sweet he wants to know what we think about all this, seeing as he's the young'un on the board.

anType and sneaker, good sound advice. I also like the no regrets bit anType brought up. One of my favorite things to live by.
