I've seen a lot of "dream setlists" that are basically extra-long playlists of tracks the Chems have never played live or haven't in a while. So I got around to thinking... what if you had the chance to make five songs setlist regulars? Would you give some obscure B-Side or long-forgotten album track its live debut or a dearly-missed live favorite a second chance? What would you pick and why?
As for me (in no particular order):

1. Come With Us
I've already used this post in two other threads, but it sums up my feelings so well:

As much as I love the new version of Another World, there's only one track that I think would make the truly perfect intro for the Stargate... and that's Come With Us. Think about it- just picture this:
[above video]
But with the giant head on the Stargate. He could actually move his head around to look at different parts of the audience and then the Stargate and LED net could work in tandem for the dot explosion!

Ideal place in the setlist: The intro, naturally! It could then segue into Galvanize followed by Another World (which is a transition which I think would work much better now with its new "live remix").

2. The Test
Anybody who's seen me post around here should probably know by now that I'm a big fan of this song, and that's in part because it always seems to go down so well live. It's got that swelling, "epic" feel to it that just makes it a perfect crescendo for the set.
Ideal place in the setlist: This one's a bit of a challenge. While it's a perfect crescendo, it's not really that good as the last song of the show, so the encore is out. I think it would be suited best for the last song before the pre-encore interlude, just like on the Come With Us tour. Though that position is currently taken by Block Rockin' Beats. Perhaps that song will find a different place to call home one day?

3. It Began In Afrika
I think this video says it all. Why did I not know they had played it in 2007 until now? The We Are The Night tour was absolutely rife with setlist changes.
Ideal place in the setlist: after Don't Think. It would make a far better segue into Out Of Control, as the video above makes evident.

4. The Pills Won't Help You Now
There was a discussion thread about the live version of this song recently with the general consensus being "awesome". And for good reason: it's a mellow, beat-heavy affair which functions equally well as a breather and a dance number, depending upon the mood of the audience. But it'll need some new visuals if it wants to co-exist with Hoops...
Ideal place in the setlist: Come to think of it I have no idea where this would fit, what with its previous spot (after Believe) now taken up by Escape Velocity. Ah, well.

5. Das Spiegel
I feel like this song wasn't given the chance it deserved live. To sum it up in someone else's words:

View Postwhirlygirl, on 23 July 2007 - 3:17 AM, said:

Das Spiegal. As I said in the Fresh discussions thread, I also love the intro, the build of layers, the melodica. I also like that the giggle and moan sounds were kept in. It's joy personified in sound.

Ideal place in the setlist: To me Das Spiegel could have easily become a stunning staple of the encore, sending the audience into a dreamy ambience before the topped things off with a stunning closer. And while the current encore is excellent, it comes across as a bit too dancey for me. Hoops should be elsewhere in the set.

There are a lot of tracks I'd love to hear live, I like all of the above, plus 2 more that come to mind now Music Response and Burst Generator, I'd die if they played them.
Further Remixed There's nothing else...

I think Come With Us and the Test would be welcomed back with open arms, if they were ever weaved into their setlists again.

Come With Us feels so much different as an opener - where Hey Boy Hey Girl and Galvanize felt more like a 'let's get this party started' call to arms. Come With Us projects a mood like the show was embarking on a musical journey to another place in time. (I think Another World intro is successful in doing this as well and I think it's perfect for this leg of their tour).

I experienced The Test live as the closer and it was amazing and unexpected. I personally thought it was a perfect end to a perfect show. The Reel and Sunshine Underground are more traditional closers in the epic vein but I really thought The Test pulled it off so well. We all had passed the proverbial acid test, and that song sent us off into the night a tad bit dazed and confused, and very exhausted and content... I think The Test as a closer worked then, but I think I'd be interested in hearing it placed somewhere else in a set. Not sure where, though!

I'd love it if Flashback made an appearance again. That song is nothing short of insanity. It would fit in well during the show's peak moments, where everything skyrockets into a fevered pitch full of crazy.

Hold Tight London - would like to hear that brought into their set again some day.

Not sure if I've fully thought this one out, but off the top of my head - Loops of Fury would be cool. I'd like to hear them tweak a bit with it, and I'd like to hear what it would sound like in the live element in 2011.

CWU and The Test probably have better chances of being added than any other track that I would want to add. I like HTL cause of its tribal sound to it. Plus, if it was played, it could be easily blended into Afrika-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka!

LOF! interesting! If they add that, I'll probably play as one of those transitions that fits in between from one song to another, like when Birdie Down Beats was used to bridge SG and HBHG!

Come With Us.would love to hear this live and of course as the opener.
It Began In Afrika deserves to be in there too.
Pills Won't Help You Now.just a dream and thing of great beauty but could you have both it and Surface To Air in the same show?I say yes please!
Golden Path is lovely when it appears but only too briefly for my liking.sure they could flesh it out a bit more.
Star Guitar must always remain.

Because I'm not sure where Pills would fit in I'm thinking of changing my #4 to The Boxer. It's got some cool visuals, a "live" sound that's different than the studio version, and I think they could do without Tim Burgess in the same style they did Galvanize: just play some key lines with some heavy echo effects applied. They're practically doing it in this video anyway. Just ignore Tim's guest appearance:

It's about time they added 'It began in Afrika' to the setlist, that song begs to be played live.

This is EXACTLY what I think ought to be added to the live set in the near future.

@Champi: How did you find that quote of mine that is in your signature? Ha! I forgot that I wrote that... looking back at the thread, it basically went ignored. Glad you resurrected it for a second 'go.

OMG! Did they do Pills Won't Help You Now live? Was this for the WATN tour?! or is that dubbed? I remember watching some vids taken in New York and the Encore they did for them was A Modern Midnight Conversation which was great. They did Sunshine Underground when they came to Australia for that tour.

Loved The Test live especially that live version from the Come With Us tour mixed with Hey Boy Hey Girl elements. In total aggreeance with Loops of Fury especially after hearing it from that Lollipops gig mixed with dust up beats and prescription beats. I remember the version they did of It Doesnt Matter in 00' Australia where they pumped it to 11 and had this snare drum pattern that was morphing in and out like a helicopter over the top of the punishing bass that we all know and love from that track! Crazy! And the various live versions of Setting Sun as a stand alone song. I always thought Elektrobank with a different twist or even more true to the original version would go off as well. So much!

Now that I think about it, I thought how could you possibly top Superflash? but then it came it to me, if you mixed it somehow with Hold tight london. That would be a spiritual awakening!

Come out from the cold and into the setting sun. It's where it all began for me (not in Afrika), like it was out of control. Then after that life was sweet. So dream on into the pioneer skies of the fourteenth century and rise from the sunshine underground.
