Hmmm, I personally don't see why they didn't do another ACIDplanet thing like they did for Galvenize... Well, I'll try my hand at making something original and danceable on this orangemixer. :?

Maybe because they thought it was too much work to provide the loops?
The Galvanize contest was a big fucking disappointment to me, because the only thing you got was an a-cappella, and some crappy Sony loops. And that sucks.

Nine Inch Nails are way cooler, they provided several tracks from their album as big channel-separated wav... This Orange mixer sucks so much, I didn't even try to make something decent. I don't know if the guys who programmed that ever used a good sequencer... They could at least make the samples fit, so that there's not a 2ms hole between each loop... I'm pissed

I dunno Ben_j, I've heard more than one talking-head on here talk down Garageband, which is apparently one of Trents favorites. So i'm guessing there will be plenty of battling "correct" opinions.
@TJ - screw them. The orange mixer blows, and you made something that _I_ thought was worth listning to. (one of them -- the other two weren't as good. i'd have to relisten to figure out which it was... calculate, maybe?)

Its sad to see tension in this thread about what really is just a fun and novel bit of marketing. Fans can hear the parts solo'd, enthusiasts can enjoy a fun little remix and producers can sample from the flash interface into whatever DAW they like... but lets not forget its just a fun bit of marketing in play.
Anyway... FYI... Segue played a remix of EBW9 at Elements:9 the other night (erm, 22 june). Its an event in Brisbane, Australia that features live acts etc. Remix went down a treat. Its doing the rounds in DJ wallets now, probably pop up on torrents soon. I could point to a yousendit if anyones interested.
Lastly... the Galvanise thing was kind of played out like any remix comp really, but Ryan "The Score" from Bitrok did the best remix of it i heard. Check those boys out! It's no wonder they've blown up so huge.

Ben_j, i saw your mix, and i have multiple emails, so i got a few orange mixer accounts to keep giving the both of ours good ratings. because more good ratings puts ours in the top ten section which gives us more publicity. So more people will be able to hear our mixes. pretty sneaky huh?

i quite like the orange mixer actually, its quite good seen as it was built on flash.
i been playing around with it myself, and 16 tracks is enough for me... for the purpose of the competition, i really rate the orange mixer
And seeing as its a web competition, i guess it has to be simple enough to use for someone who has never used music software.

far more interesting than the first -- nice. I think some more variations tho -- perhaps taking some of your last half, and incorporating it into the typical beat/loops you have running at the beginning..? I like when you got the upward synthy swoosh into it about halfway through...

Thanks. I kind of underestimated the response to it. Some sites like Palms Out Sounds have featured or run with it and we had a huge amount of traffic on one day, which crashed the server. Ive had to pull tunes from our site and load balance to cope with it. Crazy. Will have video footage of people going nuts to this, we fly out to an interesting interstate gig next week and are filming the gig.
Oh but of course, this doesn't exist because we'd never ever ever ever ever violate the terms of the Orange mixer "remix competition" right? What a sad sad bit of marketing that was. Probably very profitable though, and not as tasteless as the current "remix comp" trend on Beatport that attempts to SELL the remix parts!!
How on EARTH are the guys going to "judge" those "remixes"? I cant think of anything WORSE then sitting through even 40 of them... the sample quality is crap, the interface is crap, the other samples are crap, the overall quality of the remixes is going to be crap and theres absolutely no room to actually make music there. I'm almost certain they will delegate to someone the task of weeding out the worst and making a shortlist.
Still I'm grateful for getting the chance to hear those MS20 riffs :)
