PTB -- you can't hate it for having cymbals and bombs!

not so much in fact...

tom or ed said something to a couple of the forum members on NYE @ Turnmills about it being almost done.

supposedly summer-ish this year.

dark, electronic, and experimental, kinda minimal apparently.

actually I'd say it's currently being drifted away from..

I can't picture tom Rowlands making a minimal record though -- he can't help making layered goodness; he seems to get so excited about depth.

w00t!

if it sounds anything like 8+9 it will be great. experimental is the word i was looking for, which hopefully translates to something different than another ptb.

Can't wait!! It doesn't matter what labels (like minimal) get attached as long as they're pleased enough to please us!!

Dark electronic and melodic suit me just fine. Bring itttttt!!!!

I dont care if people label it as punkrockemo!

There's only one label that you can give to the Chems music and thats...

Chems music!

they dont sound like typical chemical tracks, and i was skeptical at first but when those big old fashioned amenish breaks bust in i knew.

im so glad they seem to have gotten the last big pay cheque out of the way with ptb and actually are starting to expand. like surrender, i hope this new record pisses alot off because its new and exciting and not what people WANT to expect from a chems record.

I know you're not a fan of Push The Button but I think that's a pretty demeaning thing to say about an album they're quite proud to have made. Methinks the Chems could have retired a long time ago on previous phat paychecks if they wanted. I've always gotten the feeling they said "fuck what people say, we're going to do as we please" with Push The Button - not the other way around. Can't think of one person here - fan of Push The Button or not - who was expecting what they eventually heard on the album. As for the Chems just now deciding to expand their musical horizons? Not gonna touch that. If someone chooses to believe the Chems haven't expanded (whether it's seen as good or bad) in some way from one album to the next then that's their own issue. Anyway, not trying to be a supreme bitch here but it is irritating to read comments that question my favorite band's artistic integrity. If such shallow "last-big-pay-cheque-out-of-the-way" accusations are going to be chucked around then there better be some hard evidence to back up those claims.

I hope it doesn't piss people off but I hope it brings new fans into the spectrum and helps bring older fans who lost their way some years back into the fold. It's good for a band to keep people on their toes although seeing how badly Surrender divided the fanbase was really quite painful...

Thor_Saytyr, I disagree on that one, man... The thing is, IMO, Push The Button is exactly where they didn't "give in to the paycheck". The same happened with Come With Us. These two records brought completely new tendencies, things that people didn't expect (fans or not, by the way). I personally enjoyed both to the fullest since the first listen. Granted, there were a few tracks that when I first heard, I thought "Well, that's completely unexpected..." But seconds later, it came to my mind: "But they're doin' it fucking beautifully!".
