I disapprove! Neither Chemical Brothers nor Prodigy should win something like this. And as for Daft Punk... The major media following of Daft Punk is entirely after they contributed great dance music.

I am confounded. What a strange list.
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

...? On the contrary, I think they are probably the most qualified artists to win something like this. Who would you consider the most worthy "dance act"?

Chems at 3rd--still fantastic. Obviously many of us here on the board would have put them at #1, but I think the top three share the #1 slot, all things considered.

Yeah I have no clue why The Shamen are on there.
Other than that though I'd say this is a pretty good list, especially if you don't put too much emphasis on the specific order. Loads of people who've made a genuinely huge impact on the world of dance music and pretty much all of them are proven veterans.

Top 3 is good enough for me! I personally think that Prodigy should've been in the top 5, not top 3!

I don't mind the top 3, and am happy to see the Chems high up as they are. Mixmag has been pretty good to them over the years and it is nice to see them keeping the faith in the brothers. But when I see Kraftwerk bumped down a few notches in favor of Faithless and Deadmau5, I'm a little puzzled. Followed by Depeche Mode further down the list, which, as an 80's kid who was spoon fed alt rock and new wave growing up with DM at the helm - to me they just stick out here a bit like a sore thumb. And The Shaman. That is a little strange. There's nothing wrong with any of these acts... I don't know. It suppose this list kind of smacks of a big whatevuh to me after the first handful of mentions. But these lists always do provide a springboard for discussion and head scratching. So there is that!

The Shamen were an indie-dance act that were extremely popular in the early 90s during the height of 'Madchester' with Move Any Mountain, LSI, and Ebeneezer Goode. I'm happy to see them on the list since they were highly influential in indie-dance during that time.

Above and Beyond are a trance act from London that is perhaps at the top of their game. Even though I hate trance nowadays (used to be an avid listener in the 90s and onward til recently), they are still producing some great material and have no problem branching out beyond their comfort zones when it comes to having their remixes done (MJ Cole did a remix of their song You Got To Go).

And Pendulum and Deadr4t SHOULD NOT have been on the list, PERIOD.

Shaman were massive in their time, and influenced a lot of people. Also the guy died, so they get a lot of nostalgia.

AND mister C set up The End which was the best club in London for years and years

The Shamen should be on EVERY list!

There's a brilliant story behind the song too, but I can't be bothered to write it so i'll copy and paste it from Wikipedia

Quote

The song entered the British charts at number six in September 1992, before climbing to number one two weeks later (ironically during the BBC's drug awareness week), staying there for four weeks. It was the 13th biggest selling single of 1992, selling 278,000 copies. It is the group's biggest seller.
The song is best known for its chorus, "'Eezer Goode, 'Eezer Goode/He's Ebeneezer Goode", which has been construed as a reference to ecstacy, sometimes referred to as "E": "Es are good, Es are good, these effin' E's are good

I dont know what you are looking for in the best dance act. Chems and Prodigy fit perfect into this category. I read that issue of Mixmag and some of the nominees were outrageous - acts from literally last year. Best dance act of all time should at least be going ten years or so.

Yet, I find deadmau5 legitimate, as he's really something else, something new in term of exposition, popularity, etc. There's no doubt he will keep that popularity, and become a reference like some of the other names in that list in the coming years.
