I am such a fangirl, I put my trust in Tom and Ed. I'm easy to please - they can open and close a set with whatever song they want because while it's happening I'm not thinking "oh damn, I wish they were playing this other song instead." That's not to say I don't miss some songs from their sets, or that I never wanted them to play certain songs. I just figure it's neither here nor there when it comes down to when the Chems take to the stage. So whatever tunes they want to throw my way while I'm at a gig, I'm fine with that as long as it's loud and makes my ears ring for the rest of the night.

TMN --> HBHG is probably my choice for opener though CWU would be spectacular as well.
Galvanize is a good tune and got a fantastic response live but there are far too many songs I'd rather hear in a set.
Three Little Birdies is stellar. Would love to hear it live. Probably my fave track on EPD, along with Alive Alone.
The Test is gorgeous but would need to be the closer in the set and I'm not sure I'd rather hear it than The Reel or Sunshine Underground.

I remember back during their PTB tour, they played this mash-up of block rockin beats and morning lemon that was so amazing. On the "OMG Scale" it gets a 10. I remember seeing a video of it once recently. Can't find it, but thats probably one of my most favorite live things they've ever done. WATN live is pretty sweet too. I wonder what Pioneer Skies would be like live!? Ooooo, that would be epic!

Oh no! Thread.inspires.re-hashing.memories... must...not... get notalgic.
Damn. Too late. Seeing talk about shows always makes me nostalgic and sappy and all that crap.
There's so many epic and awesome moments, it's hard to put them all in one post even for me. It's why I love reading reviews from people who've gone to shows. And these bits about what songs people love the show to start with, things that go to 10 on the OMG Scale. I don't know how else to put it. I love reading about other peoples' moments and what stood out for them. For me there's been special stand-out moments at all the gigs I've gone to. Yeah, stand-out moments could fill pages if everyone chimed in. Hint hint, nudge nudge, wink wink. There are so many moments, all of them great, all equal in their coolness... I think one that will always be with me is when I finally heard The Reel. I wasn't expecting it, and when you are there and you hear your favorite song being played live by your favorite musicians - it's a cool thing to happen. It's fuckin' awesome, really hehe.
prochem, the OMG Scale had to have maxed out to 11 of course. ;) It would be nifty if you could find that mash up. I've gone sifting through youtube but there's just so much I don't know where to begin.
Pioneer Skies, I always felt, was a bit too short n'sweet on the album. It's one of my biggest gripes, dammit. :P But those twinkly sounds that conjure up these images of rays of light raining from the sky... you know those sounds I'm talking about, they come during the climax of the song before those bubbly fluttery sounds help bring the song to a close. I do think you're on to something about how it would play out live. There's some masterpiece sounds in there that could be mashed in or used in a intro or outtro to another tune which could be a real treat for the ears.
Man, it must be difficult being Tom and Ed trying to piece together these musical puzzles they create when crafting a live show. There's such a library of sounds from their entire catalogue, anything could work in some way, shape or form really.
