So, I have recently taken an interest in mix albums. Mainly in big collaborations like "Brother's Gonna Work it Out" featuring the Chemical Brothers, but also in stuff like Fatboy Slim's "Dance, Bitch!" (that album is amazing - I have robotripped countless times to it, it's a great accompaniment). Any recommendations for stuff like this is greatly appreciated...

In other news, Justice's performance of "Master of Puppets" at the end of "A Cross the Universe" is one of the most simultaneously hilarious and awesome things I've ever heard, even if Metallica does suck. :P

Check out 'The Chemical Brothers - Live At The Social Volume 1'. It's a really good old skool mix from the Brothers.

'Prodigy - The Dirtchamber Sessions Volume One' is somewhat similar in style to the Chem's 'Brother's Gonna Work it Out' CD. It came out around the same time ('99), features current songs of the time as well as old tracks, and has a lot of quick cuts and overlapping tracks.

Another interesting one is 'Kill The DJ: A Non-Stop Mash-Up Mix By Keoki'. It is a fast paced mix combinig an electro feel with new versions of retro tracks.

I'm sure a lot of posters here will also point you to the 2 Many DJ mixes by Soulwax, but I'm not sure which one to recommend.

Crystal Method released two mix CDs titled Community Service and Community Service 2. A lot of people seem to like these. The track selection and mixing are cool, but they don't have quite the same energy as the others I've mentioned.

Adam Freeland's mixes are also always good, but I think I prefer some of his live stuff to his studio mixes. His 'Coastal Breaks' series was very popular.

If you like Electro, there is a Dave Waxman mix that is pretty cool. The mix is pretty straightforward, but the song selection is great.

If you're into trance, there is also 'Communicate' by Sasha and Digweed, 'Perfecto Presents Another World' by Paul Oakenfold, and 'Tranceporting 4' by Max Graham. I can offer more trance recommendations if you like these.

Sasha's Involver is a classic. Soothing house and amazing soundscapes--I've listened to it countless times.

I've been meaning to pick up Simian Mobile Disco's recent Fabriclive release--it seems to have some great energy. Adam Freeland did a great Fabriclive release full of Evil Nine goodness and breaks.

Pick up 2ManyDJs "As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2" -- it was their only official release, and while there are twenty or so titled as the same with different numbers, they don't vary too much.

One more, since you mentioned Fatboy Slim. He has a few retail mixes out, and not sure if I'm in the majority, but I prefer his Essential Selection mix.

Actually, Oakenfold's mix is really good on this release, too.

@MadPooter - Evil Nine's Fabriclive mix is also good.

@satur8: I concur wholeheartedly! That is a really good mix album! I also like Fatboy Slim's "Live on Brighton Beach". It is kind of aged, but it is a good snapshot of 1990's-2000 dance/house/bigbeat.

Rusko's essential mix for BBC is one of the better dubstep mixes I've heard. It is pretty weird, I admit, but still good.

And thats all the really good mixes I can think of at the moment.

"Live on Brighton Beach" is amazing, indeed. I don't care how aged it is, hahaha.

my 2-cents on mix CD's. I will post some that I have been listening to years now or some more recently.

http://www.discogs.c...e/release/25696

from electro to funk to hiphop to soul to house. I think this is a solid party mix. Its got a little bit of serious hiphop mixed in there with the tounge in cheek humor make it a interesting journey

http://www.discogs.com/release/136661

Mostly fun electro and house. Especially love the Strauss going into Eurythmics. I've actually used that in DJ sets.....also made me look more into Devo and Brian Eno.

Oh and I can't forget about the digital breakdown into the epic space horn on David. That is the closest in recorded form to a outter body experience I have ever had.

I must check out the others that satur8 suggested though.

Totally agree with Rynostar on the Jacques le Cont Fabriclive cd, awesome mix up of funky/acid house and some 80s electro thrown in. No29 by Cut Copy is also very good imo. I used to really like the Plump DJs one (no8 I think) but I find it rather average nowadays apart from two or three tracks.
