Well this thread was inevitable.

I'm sure most of you have heard of this by now. I first thought it looked pretty stupid. Then I heard DJ Shadow and Daft Punk we're gonna be making appearances, and now.....well.....I don't know what to think.

Here is a promo vid of Daft Punk in Dj Hero http://www.youtube.c...h?v=BxGH7ga1wgE

And here is DJ Shadow: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=pFCegc2bzlQ

Holy Hell look at the artist list: http://www.djhero.com/music

I really don't know what to think about this either.

I like guitar hero, but definitely not enough to make me want to run out and buy it.

I'm trying to picture what "DJ Hero" would look like, though, and I'm not really coming up with anything...

Edit: Okay, they have a turntable controller. Wow... really?

Even though there's alot of artists and some of the mash-ups are great mixes, its too bad the controller is not complete-freedom turntable. And just like Guitar Hero, maybe some of these buyers will actually be inspired to pick up the actual real-life instrument after playing these games.

Maybe the Chems are unlockable or DLC maybe!

That would be awesome having the chems as DLC. But then the question is which songs should they put on? They would have to get the chems to mix it themselves surely.

Anyway im really looking forward to giving it a go and seeing if it's any good :)

I'm a casual gamer at best, but I am really looking forward to this. In adition to the general concept and turntable controller, there is a working cross-fader to jump between songs.

Also, for those that are unaware, there is a turntable / guitar co-op option.

I was initinally skeptical, but I've been following the press on this and think it will be awesome.

So they put Beck, Motörhead, Tears For Fears and Tiësto in one game?

Yes, I am rather intrigued by the deck/guitar option. Will it be normal guitar hero notes or will it be just like using an alternative controller to play the same note?

IF the chemical brothers made an appearance, my guess is that Block Rockin Beats would most likely be used.

@prochem, for your veiwing pleasure:

One turntable and mixer, one guitar, The Beastie Boys, Foo Fighters and two dudes that have entirely too much screen time. Oh, and your answer....

This whole thing is so crazy. I wonder if you can play as DP or you just battle against them.

I'm a fan of the concept, but I absolutely HATE the fact that Harmonix/Activision feel the need to peddle another add-on.

With that said, if you want to checkout the pre-cursor to Guitar Hero, checkout Amplitude and Frequency by Harmonix. Great games with a half-techno playlist. Plenty of damn good fun!

Due to those games (DJ Hero, Rock band...), all the future of the music is going towards an epic fail.

All of a sudden, all these emo teens are gonna start being "Djs" and play some tracks and head bang. Ben_j posted a link to a video like that once. It was of some kid who claimed to be a "DJ". He just played a track and would just go nuts.

I actually know of some kids who had an old record player which they took from one's Dad and would just scratch old classic rock records. Brilliant.

@prochem

I don't think most people have any understanding of what a DJ does anyway, so I can't see this game making a bad name for the masters. I've spent years explaining to people that, "No, I don't do weddings, I'm not that type of DJ. No, I don't have a radio or podcast show. NO, I certainly DO NOT play Britney Spears or Black Eyed Peas. GODDAMMIT! ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME?"

I think there is a very limited number people who really understand the craft, whether it be a set with hours of perfect transitions or straight up turntablism. They have no idea how much work is involved with the technical aspects, maintaining the energy of the crowd while retaining your integrity as an artist, and the inconvenience of dealing with the drunk or drugged up patrons that think you are there to talk with them. In fact, most people don't even consider DJs as artists, which is the really fucked up part because they have no idea.

Sure, a lot of noobs will think this will make them DJs, but as you said, a lot of them already think that way without the game. As I've said, people don't really get what we're doing anyway, so it doesn't affect me. Besides, playing guitar hero doesn't make people think they are a guitarist, so hopefully common sense will prevail with the masses regarding DJ Hero. (Okay, well, maybe it won't...)

I'm looking forward to a fun game that involves something I am interested in, and I'll probably be good at it. I'm not worried about the misconceptions of others. These are the same ignorants that think all electronic music sounds like "Darude/Sandstorm", the same idiots that think a remix of 50 Cent makes a dancefloor, and the same dinks that don't understand that, like any other craft, the tools you use can help make a difference. The knucklehaeds that think DJs are just jukeboxes are the only ones that are going to run their mouths, so just ignore them.

In my mind, it's just a game, and chumps are chumps wheather they play this or Halo. Besides, who knows how many kids that might typically gravitate to the Jonas Brothers will play this game, be blown away, and grow up to start another mainstream electronic music revolution like the one from mid-90's?
