Have you ever listened to California Gurls by Katy Perry? You can find it on the top of the Billboard.

The melodies on the beginning and the beats of it are almost the same as Swoon!!

What happened??

Don't think. The bass look similar, and the two tracks are sounding like 80's to me, but nothing more...

yeah, but swoon is 'heavily influenced' by about 3 Orbital songs and My Bloody Valentine's Loveless album, so it's not too much to be worried about

I know, Swoon is similar to Lush 3-1 by Orbital.

Swoon is nothing like Lush, just has a melody quite similar to one of the leads on Lush. It's like saying Block Rockin' Beats is just a rip-off of a 23 Skidoo track..
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

also, the katy perry song rips off Pryda's production style more than Swoon -- and he's not exactly original to begin with

The Katey Perry reference is completely nonsense. Not the slightest similarity besides tthere is a bit of an off-beat bassline. As for Lush, the first couple of notes are indeed a bit similar to the last bar of swoon's main melody but the whole thing and its context is totally different.
E(argasm) = m(usic) x c(hemicals)²

Honesty is the best policy, I'm not gonna lie.
On subsequent listens, it's obviously nothing like it, but first impressions were as above.

That said, it's still my least favourite track on the album at the moment (subject to change as always!)

I love that track by Katy perry, and I'm a big fan of Max Martin and Denniz pop (i think max martin produced this one?)

it's a standard chord progression, and yes, it is exactly the same as swoon in that respect, but i'm definite that same progression of D, A#, C has been used a million times and will continue to be. go find any pop song in D minor.

but the songs are different takes on a similar feeling... funny that we assosciate The D minor Scale with Summer, and prettyness... i do wonder why that is.

i'm sure we will get a terrible California Swoon mashup soon. :(

Well, if Swoon had been released one year or two ago, I could have some doubts, but...it sounds pretty absurd to me, like the Alizée/Coldplay rumours. It´s only a similar progression.

BTW. Mrs. Perry has hit the target with that single. Catchiest mainstream hit in a long time...

But I have to say that I thought Katy Perry utilized chembros' work.

California Gurls has an almost identical synth line to Tik Tok by Kesha. It's even in the same key! I'm dead serious, just listen to the synth at the start of each song:

These two songs are produced by the same people... dr luke and benny someone... i forget, excepting Max Martin helped with California Gurls.

This is the year of Dr. Luke and Benny-whatsisface, they also did Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA"

this sound is popular and probs will be for the rest of the year, just like for the last 2 years we have had Will I Am at the top of the pop world, now we have these guys. before Will I Am, it was Timbaland, and before him, The Neptunes. these are the people responsable for what trends in pop music.

Thats very interesting. It bothers me how under-credited most producers are (Timbaland is about the only "popular" name out of the bunch).
But lets not forget the good ol' days a few years ago when Soldier Boy was big—remember all that other hell'annoying "hip-hop" that was out then?
