@ Whirly with the parents forced to watch kids movies...

Thomas is awesome. And really useful.

But the absolute worst, amongst many, many awful kids films (don't get me started on Barbie or High School Musical), is the Polly Pocket Pollyworld movie. Jesus... It's tough resisting putting your boot through the tv...

I liked the Thomas the Tank Engine series - I thought it was really cute. But the movie... I must've seen it literally 30 times (including the time we first saw it in the theater). Who was it.. Peter O'Toole? Not exactly the performance of his life. I was so freakin sick of that movie and was so glad when my son moved on the Star Wars. Even though the entire Star Wars series started seriously grating on my nerves on the 100th viewing.

I lucked out and escaped with not having to watch the little girlie movies. Polly Pocket sounds dreadful!! Ah - the things a parent will do for their kids!

@Whirls -- Happiness is quite the amazing film, both in its ability to present some of the darkest comedy known to humankind and make one feel at unease with humanity. Todd Solondz has made some absolutely amazing subversive films, all involving subject matter that is unseen in most films, even in the independent circuit.

Also from Solondz (and none of these can be considered "bad," by the way):

Palindromes (2004) - Because nothing says "great movie" like child sex.

Storytelling (2001) - Your answer to the questions, "What is it like to see a college girl have sex with a guy with a physical deformity go on to have sex with her black professor?" and "How can we turn a normal ten year old boy into a cruel, heartless, nearly-evil piece of shit?"

Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995) - Teenage awkwardness at its finest. This is actually considered a classic by many.

Palindromes is actually -hilarious- if you can stomach the rather lurid subject matter.

@Iggy & Rynostar: I've seen the MST3K version of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, and even sitting there watching them make fun of it was painful. Oh, but when the "polar bear" comes and attacks--priceless.

@inchemwetrust : Mars Attacks ??? really ???

That's like the best "aliens invading earth" movie ever :O

Here's my list :

Batman & Robin (no comment)

Batman Forever (no comment)

Demolition Man (I'v never seen a movie with so many clichés)

Youth Without Youth (I didn't understand a thing about that movie)

Revolver (terrible movie)

Taxidermia (what the fuck ?!)

Ali G (childish pointless jokes)

Superbad (the title says it all)

Double Zero (the same as above)

Pooter I have to agree with pretty much everything you said about Happiness (but I still had to wash the Happiness off after I saw that film).

And MST3K is awesome! I remember those Thanksgiving marathons they used to have of the show, bunches of years ago. My friends and I used to have little MST3K parties which was fun. My favorite MST3K episode was when they made fun of the ever so laughable and terrible Zombie Nightmare. "Help, I'm being stalked by Depeche Mode!"

The MST3K movie was a let down, though. They should've left well enough alone! It might even be a "shit film" qualifier, but I'm not 100&% on that...

Oh! Anaconda is also a reallllly bad film. Except for the backward waterfall. Whoopie edit! It was so bad you swear it was intentional.

haha you're right Ben_J, the Ali G film was shit, but it made me laugh a lot because it's meant to be shit. It wasn't a patch on the Ali G show, and luckily he rectified his mistakes with Borat.

Water World

An army of smokers rowing an aircraft carrier and drinking Jack Daniels, when they haven't seen land for thousands of years and the amazing line 'he's got dirt'

Star Wars I, II, III

Leave the computerised special effects alone and think about the narrative, oh and a bit of humour wouldn't go a miss George either!

Dancer in the Dark

The most depressing 140mins of my life. Don't watch this on a Sunday after a nights raving and if you have bad eye sight!

Eight Legged Freaks

A waist of a night and petrol! Although I suppose that's what I should have expected from the title.

Lars von Trier (a.k.a. the director of Dancer in the Dark) has made some of the most depressing films known to humankind.

And I suppose I'll add Star Wars: Episodes I & II to my list. I thought Episode III had redeeming value to it.

I've already said this before on the films you saw thread but dreamcather is a truly awful film as is another horror i've seen called reeker (aviod like the plague).

Also every film with adam sandler except happy gilmore (going overboard and little nicky are especially dire)

Aw, Billy Madison wasn't bad. ;-)

And yes to Dreamcatcher being a piece of shite.

london_dust - Waterworld was absolutley horrible! I should've walked out of the theater during the first 5 minutes when Kevin Costner is drinking his own pee. But I endured. I wanted to see Dennis Hopper. At the time, Waterworld was the most expensive film ever made. It was during a time when a lot of Japanese corporations were buying up film studios such as Paramount, etc and I believe the filmmakers were trying to bankrupt the studio so the Japanese would unload it.

Jay-C I will be sure to stay away from Deamcatcher!! I agree most Adam Sandler films are super crappy but I thought he was pretty good in Punch Drunk Love. It was his "break out of comedy" role and he was surprisingly decent. That said, I watched Don't Mess With The Zohan over the weekend thanks to my husband's 1337 bit torrent skillz. My mom got a good laugh out of it, and I hate to admit it but I laughed during the film as there were some amusing scenes. But overall Zohan was utterly ridiculous.

Pooter - Lars Van Trier is a nut. He thanks his "Lord Satan" when he receives awards for his films. He's an intense director and I'm convinced he hates his audience! Watching his movies is an emotionally taxing experience! I don't think his films are particularly bad but I do find them tedious and for the most part, an absolute downer. Dancer In The Dark was an incredible film - my eyes welled up at the end. Another one he did was Dogville, with Nicole Kidman. What an odd and disturbing film, but amazingly scripted and acted out (if you can get past the barebones set design). I first heard of Lars Van Trier years ago when stash and I were told we needed to see this Danish tv show called Das Kingdom. It was a highly disturbing and twisted series about a haunted hospital. It's worth a watch if you can stomach Lars Van Trier.

I have had many a debate with my friend Dave (who is a sound recordist for film) about Mr Van Trier. He loves all his films, where as I'm never entertained by anything depressing. If I want to be depressed I'll watch the news or X Factor ;)

The video games to these titles were 'choice' but the movies just tanked!

Double Dragon- the good part was the footage of Alyssa Milano! Gouda Cheesey!

Street Fighter- Some of the cast didn't have the body types of the actual video game characters! Sorry Raul Julia! String Cheesey!

Mortal Kombat- Christopher Lambert was great but the fight scenes were way too short! Fatality Cheesey!

Honorable Mention...

The Wizard - Waited an hour and 40 min just to see SMB 3 gameplay! It's just a big Nintendo commercial! 'Power Glove' Chessey!

Mortal Kombat. Oh shit, I remember when that movie came out and my parents wouldn't allow me to see it, nor was I able to even play/watch the video game. When the movie came out on tape, my cousin some how got the video from one of his friends and we felt like we had the holy grail in our grasps. Needlessly to say, I loved the movie. Oh to be 10 again...

@inchemwetrust--how the hell do you have a competition playing Super Mario Brothers 3? I was 10 and even I thought it was ridiculous.

"GET THE WARP WHISTLE!!!" yelled Fred Savage. "You've got to be kidding me," exclaimed an exasperated Andy.
