Say tomorrow there are promos leaked (which would happen is everyone's guess), or if they don't till the 18th (which I'm hoping and praying), can we have local street teams working in different countries for this album?

I'll tell u where I'm coming from. India's a huge country and the international music (buying) scene is exploding. The last album got quite a bit of radio play for the first time, mostly small radio stations, since most of the music on radio is local bollywood music, but some radio stations did play galvanise and a few tracks quite a bit (tho not much).

I've got some networking with radio stations (mostly friends into music also doubling up as RJs) - can we get permission from the Chems camp to officially work with these people and get the new album lots of airplay?

I for one already have committment from 4 friends who play good late night shows and are keen if we can get a blanket permission to start using the songs. Knowing Virgin in my country, they'll prolly not even send them the promos or the official cd once out - since we have lots of people from different countries on this board, can we look at official street teams pushing the album for radio play?

Just a serious thought that's been playing on my mind - would be great if others can chip in, and if Ed can work out the dynamics with Astrelworks/ Virgin and get me permission to start getting the songs on air soon.

p.s. Also, the VH1 programming head and some other programming heads are close acquaitances/ friends - I can work with them to push the video more this time around.

double p.s. - stash/ whirly - can u make this a sticky so it catches ed or someone who can authorize's attention - thx!

bumping this.

I'm serious folks. Is there anyway I can understand the dynamics of these street teams? I've heard about other bands doing it.

If u say u were on the PTB street team, what exactly did it involve?

I've already got 4 radio stations interested in playing stuff from the new Chems, mostly through personal networking, and some djs interested in dropping it soon, whenever it's leaked, released whatever.

Is there a way someone can shed more light on this? I'd love to see this album get pushed more in the indian media - there'r millions of fm stations booming all over, and tv channels, and vh1 and mtv wont really do enough justice - i really want this to sell!

it's like we had maiden fans since the last 30 yrs, but suddenly the last album went straight into the charts at no.1, something really weird for a maiden to make it in the popular charts - and so they were here playing to a 60000 crowd and so are many other bands regularly now. Am sure if more albums sold legally than downloads, there'r enough fans around in this huge country to warrant a stopover on their way to fujirock or something.

Whirly - PLS make this a sticky!

Hey, who you calling cunt, chemdup?? ;)

I did the street team thingie for Push The Button which worked out rather well considering we hardly got any promotional materials to pimp Push The Button at the Tower I worked at. All the street team goodies I got went to a very worthy cause.

Dear Tom & Ed,

Do you consider 'Do It Again' a minimal song?

Kind regards,

Slipvin

First Slipvin : If you've heard the high end version of the single - u will see that it's no fuckin way a minimal song. Damn, it' fuckin rich in sounds and textures, and I'm guessing it's gonna be the funky dance song on the album once the whole thing shows up. The pt where u say ah let's get up and fuckin jump! Nevermind u'r one liner sad reply if u still don't see it, noone here cares much. U just irritate people, and I've no idea what kinda kick u get outta it, u'll prolly grow up someday and learn to respect people and get some back.

Whirly and others - thanks for the replies - I didn't mean a street team literally like the other "desperate" bands do - but I'm sure even Tom n Ed, if found out tomorrow that they have loads of fans in India, would love to come down and play/ experiment to a new audience. It's just about cds selling for them to notice the statistics and realise. There's a huge club scene boom happening here over the last one yr, and there'r loads of djs now spinning at at least 5 parties a week just in my small town - stuff from breaks to electro house to various other stuff - am sure most don't know the chems because of a lack of promos from virigin or the chems - the new upcoming djs around the world hang around a lot on their myspaces or whatever, and make it a point to send these folks promos and stuff to spin/ try out.

It's basically just that the Virgin fucks don't take the distribution or promos too seriously in here, and I know for a fact that PTB could have done really well - it reaches out to a much wider audience, unlike a Dig Your Own Hole which was more basic old school hardcore sound , and hence more underground. I don't care if people wanna say it's pop, yes they'r getting more accessible and fun, n epic, n soulful, and if it makes them popular and reachable to a bigger audience, damn, I'm happy for one!

What I'm looking at is some kinda official/ unofficial permission backend from Virgin, UK or the Chems, to work officially/ unofficially on the new album's promos cause I know a lot of people love and own Chems' stuff (legally and mostly illegally) and are keen to buy but we never see anything here except some newer studio albums in the imports section - never ever the singles, or the promos, or the back catalogue, or anything such on a sustained basis. I know since PTB did sell quite a bit, Virgin would put the new album out on the racks here in the one or two biggest stores in the big cities, because of the mandate from Virgin worldwide, but not do much more about promoting it, pushing it with djs, radio stations (there's a huge FM boom happening here, and rjs/ djs are hungry for new good music). All we'd see is the new video for a month on the regular vh1 or mtv or v. That's all. There'r are many smaller music channels with set followings which'd never even get to know much about how big the Chems are and what kinda impact they could make by promoting their stuff.

Excuse my rants if they don't make any sense, but I thot I'd just put it on a forum where Ed could prolly have a look once and do something/anything if it makes any sense, or trash it if that's all it's worth.

I don't know if I make any emotional sense to the Chems - I'm not really trying to show em more business, I know they'r not "desperate" or anything such, but am sure even they'd love to explore and play in new markets, maybe. Someday, maybe.

Dear Tom & Ed,

What do you think of your #1 fan: Jeanie?

(I personally think she's damn hot. Actually, lemme tell you a secret: she's the reason I keep visiting this place. Just one look at that cute face and nothing can spoil my day! But don't tell anyone okay? I have a reputation of mean bastard to hold up to!)

Kind regards,

Slipvin

This is what I heard back from EMI today, seems good so far, would be fun if Ed n Tom, or someone officially from HQ could back my efforts a bit.

Hi Navneet,

Thanks for your mail.

I will give you a call either today or tomorrow and we can discuss about promotions for The Chemical Brothers new album releasing 2nd July and not 18th June. As for the single and the album we will surely send them over to you.

But you have got it wrong that we do not do any promos for Chemical Brothers. We did very well with the last album and have always made their albums available on retail shelves which is not something that can be said about the other labels selling international music here. We even take the effort of matching worldwide release dates for most of our priority releases. This month we have also released limited edition EPs of Radiohead called

Airbag and Com:lag.

We look forward to working closely with you to make the new Chemical Brothers album a roring success.

Warm Regards,

Anand Srinivasan

Manager-International Labels

EMI Music India.
