I think the internet is only a waste of time if you want it to be a waste of time. Mind you, the internet can be wonderful insightful waste of time if you want it. It's so easy, limitless. Knowledge is at your fingertips. I think it's amazing, something out of science fiction I read long ago.
Back in my day, if we were to research information, we actually had to get out of the house and head to the library and physically handle large volumes of books!! ;)
I've been exposed to a lot of great things thanks to the internet. I've met some great Chemical fans in real life thanks to the internet. Been exposed to great music I might not have heard otherwise. To me lately the internet is an alternative news source to the crap the media spoonfeeds us.
Don't get me wrong, the internet has its disadvantages, but those disadvantages lay with the people that use it, not the web.
