siphilon, last night I finally got a chance to see the Galvanize secret area of this site. I didn't even get a chance to buy the single until I was far away from my computer - then when I came home I realized there was a secret waiting for me on this site.
Anyway. If you haven't checked out the secret site, it is so worth the time! There's a series of interviews where the Chems talk about each song, and they explain a bit about the ending of Surface To Air.
Tom's explanation as to why the ending to Surface To Air is the way it is... it's exactly what my first impression and visualization of the ending was/is, and I know other people here have expressed the same thing as me in regards to Surface To Air's ending - he explains that gush of air you take in after you've been holding your breath.
Thought it was pretty cool.
And I guess I can't seem to keep a secret. ;)

i just recently got the album, and i have to say my favourite songs are close your eyes and surface to air, there both inspiring tracks. i just love the way they make such uplifting music, new and fresh each cd. im not much of a fan of the hiphop side to things, but the phycadelia really brings out the feelings

I can respect that opinion, dan_069, even though I don't agree because I think Surface To Air takes me on a journey. It's interesting you brought up the TPPR parallel, though. According to a brief interview with Ed in Rip and Burn mag, he said that Surface To Air is the song closest to The Private Psychdelic Reel they've recorded. :)

I actually listened to Surrender yesterday, and I think that Surface To Air is a rip-off of The Sunshine Underground. This one is imho way closer to TPPR than STA. Hell, even the Spiritualized remix is closer to TPPR! Maybe he's absent minded?

And way back when, fans accused Sunshine Underground of being a cheap knock-off of The Private Psychadelic Reel. ;)
I think of all the songs you mentioned, there's a pattern. All are epic, and all are climactic points of the records, and I can see where you're coming from here when you find the similarities to The Reel and Sunshine Underground. But I think we're just hearing things differently and always will when it comes to Surface To Air. Agree to disagree I guess.
But I don't think Ed's absent minded, why even suggest that. If anyone would know what he's talking about, it would be the person who actually went into the studio to make both The Reel and Surface To Air.

i had a choice to two threads but i choose this one to ask. Alot of people have said STA sounds like a strokes tune. Im unsure if i have herd the strokes tune, but today i was listening to radio one and they had a song on and at the start it sounded like the start of STA? It was a rock tune and im guessing it was the strokes, herd it around 19ish on radio1, can anyone tell me if what i herd is the strokes? If it is i agree its very simular.
