sneaker:beater - respect your brothers vol 2
sneaker:beater is proud to present for the next couple of weeks his latest dj mix of chemical production. back in november i laid down the first volume. it was very much inspired by what the chems played in their dj sets. it was very easy to choose the tracks, all the dark dance floor action tunes. this time round it was a bit harder. i have gone purely for the tunes that i really love, especially their awesome remixes!! i was aiming for a slower mix, it starts at 109 bpm but by the end of the mix we are hitting 136 bpm!!
track list
The Chemical Brothers - Music:Response
The Prodigy - Voodoo People (Dust Brothers Remix)
Lionrock - Packet Of Peace (The Dust Brothers Mix)
The Chemical Brothers - Morning Lemon
Kylie - Slow (Chemical Brothers Mix)
Mercury Rev - Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp (Chemical Brothers Remix)
The Chemical Brothers - Chemical Beats
The Chemical Brothers - Song To The Siren
The Chemical Brothers - Get Yourself High (Extended Version)
The Chemical Brothers - Galaxy Bounce
Spiritualized - I Think I'm In Love (Chemical Brothers Vocal Remix)
The Chemical Brothers - The Golden Path
the boring technical bit - this time around i am going all guns blazing if a full sneaker decks 'n' effects chaos. like normal, i recorded this on my pioneer cdj's and an allen & heath mixer. also i have had a new addition to the family the pioneer efx-500 which is great for delays and echoes!!!

i hope you enjoy!!!

Get Yourself High + Galaxy Bounce = sweet.
GB is kinda strange though, is it faster?

i think galaxy bounce was running around 4.5% faster, but then again most of the tracks are going faster or slower than the original recording. i find that the original mix of galaxy bounce just sound faster than it should. the hardest thing i find with these chemical brother mixes is getting the tempo right.
when i did the first respect mix i did the lot at 132bpm. some tracks like ebw6 were a lot faster and some were slower but they were all within about +/- 6% of 132bpm. cos i use cd players they have a 'master tempo' feature. so i can speed up or slow down the tempo of a track whilst not altering the pitch. it's like time stretching. but if you slow a track to much you get that metallic echoie sound. on my new mix cos i?m playing morning lemon very slow it suffers from this problem. you might not hear it through real audio cos it degrades the sound anyway.
with this mix im going thru a range of tempos. so i recorded this mix in sections, each section a little faster. for a few tracks, on the break where the momentum of one tune transfers to the next it might jump a few bpm's (not that you'll notice unless you gotta bpm counter). thats because i've stitched together all these mini section into one whole mix.
so the people that heard my volume one, do you prefer that mix or this?? i prefer the first one, it's more complete where as this mix is slightly more self indulgent. this mix was hard work. but where is the fun without a challange.
glad you like it guys enjoy it whilst you can. i don't want to take the piss outta the chems by adding a radio on their official web site. as in the title i respect the brothers, thats why this mix will be on line for a couple of weeks.
thanks

i was gonna post a little review on each track on the start of this thread but i had to pop out this evening. kinda just explain why each track is on there.
music:response
great starting tune, i remember hearing this twice live before surrender came out, the track is a gem. pure chems magic, great starting tune.
voodoo people
i think this is one of most peoples favourite chems remixes. i love that 'rock the house ???' sample. its remixes like this that were the building blocks of their career. i remember back in the day reading the NME and seeing adverts for the prodigy live and seeing the name dust brothers supporting. if only i had been a bit earlier getting into this band!!!
packet of peace
just another classic remix what else can you say?? they still drop it in their dj set, or at least they did at the turnmills 10th anniversary party. quality. i saw lionrock once at V97 and i have one of their album, it does not live up to this!!! there was one lionrock tune that made the big time called 'rude boy rhythm' or something. the b-side had all that 'volume, sound system' vocal in it. might be worth digging out again.
morning lemon
this tune seemed to mark the start of the chems great b-side era, an era that still going!! before this all the b-sides were just.... well b-sides. morning lemon is just a crazy track the main hook is just the beat. its almost the kinda track that shouldn't work but i does. i love the feel of the track, the way that it sounds like a dj chopping two tunes together. also stood out really well on the anti nazi mix.
slow
when you hear remixes like this you kindda wonder why dont the chems do more remixes. i think kylie is the true champion of pop, she is the new madonna. fair play to the chems for taking this great pop record and turning it into this acid house monster
delta bottleneck stomp
such a blissful song. that balearic piano riff is awesome. its bands like mercury rev i wish i had more time for. the only other tune i know of theirs is 'you made me realise', top tuneage. hello!!!!! hello !!!!!!
chemical beats
when i was mixing this mix i didn't know what tune was going to go after previous, it was all spontaneous. but the way delta stomp ended i knew the only tune to go next was chemical beats, a great intro on the original mix. i got a copy of the collect 4 jbo vinyl it sounded very rough and woolly is anyone else's like that??? i had to make my own edited version from the intro from vinyl and the rest from my exit planet dust cd. why is nothing simple in this life??
song to the siren
classic tune, period!!
get yourself high
its always a relief when your favourite band brings out new material and not only is it good, but it's romping. l love the chems hip-hop stuff, 'not another drug store' is awesome. they should do more stuff like this. then again i'll let them do their own quality control, its been fine for the last 10 years!!
galaxy bounce
this is the only tune on here where i'm not being self indulgent. it's an okay tune, but by the chems standard, average. i just needed a 'bouncy' tune to keep the momentum of the whole mix going
i think i'm in love
euphoric!! not a word i like cos dave pearce has tainted it. but this tune is sooo warm. i didn't want to put it on my mix cos 'brothers gonna work it out' finishes with it. i guess you can't keep a good tune down. it always reminds me of driving to heathrow airport going to amsterdam. we were listening to BGWIO in my car and all miming the phil collins like drum break
the golden path
a lot has been said about this tune, and i don't want to stoke the flames again. i hope they will some how twist this tune into their live show. it is genius!!

perfect sneaker, if i were to review it would come out exactly like this. I like your attitude mr.dj -> "glad you like it guys enjoy it whilst you can. i don't want to take the piss outta the chems by adding a radio on their official web site. as in the title i respect the brothers, thats why this mix will be on line for a couple of weeks."
some highlites of the mix - > packet of peace and morning lemon transition, how delta bottleneck stomp leads us into an acid trip chemical beats, slow remix(that's the first i heard it :-// ) and over all it ended perfect with the golden path...ofcourse snearker i liked this mix better.it made my day and will again the next day and the next....

oh and when i did the first mix, i did not plan to do the second mix. just for the record there will definately not be a volume 3. that would be just milking it, and where is the fun in that?? the only thing that could make me do volume 3 is if the chems produce another 10 years of psychedelic funkin!!!
