not a real festival, but just one for fun.

On the coachella forum, they made this pretty cool idea for a contest:

menikmati Escribi:

*CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE CONTEST*

I assume some of you remember this from last year (late summer or whenever it was). Well it's back! For all you newcomers, this is a contest that I'm putting on (Gabe did the original), where you'll be responsible for creating a festival, which then will be pitted against other created festivals in a series of polls, resulting in one winner at the very end of it all.

Basically how it works is, for anyone who decides to enter this contest (I hope a lot of you will), you'll be required to think of a festival name, the lineup for your festival, making a poster, creating set times and then having all that be taken into account when the voting comes around.

Now for your convenience, I've made a PDF file (see below) describing the entire contest (the rules, how it works, etc...), so please refer to that before asking any questions you may have here (including questions about bands, posters, etc...).

The winner of this contest is going to receive a free t-shirt with his/her festival's logo on the front, and band lineup on the back, as well as three cd/dvds of your choice from my vast bootleg library (list will be provided). On top of that, you get bragging rights for being the best "cyber" festival promoter on these boards. Very cool.

If you're interested in signing up, PLEASE do so...I wanna get as many participants as I can. I haven't set up a deadline date for sign ups, but I will be posting one soon. So if you're interested, sign up early, so you won't be sorry later.

*CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE CONTEST*

*CONTEST RULES*

PDF Version (link)

HTML Version (link)

Please abide by the rules and stuff listed on the signup page to make sure you get entered correctly. Again if anything remains unclear or unanswered after going through the rules PDF, please ask here, and I'll clear anything up.

Again, right now there is no deadline date for signups, meaning no date has been set forth to start submitting posters yet. Stay tuned though!

I figured this might be a cool and fun group project for our forum. It will burn some time till the new release of chemical 6.

Anyone interested in helping me?

P.S. Im really gonna need help making a poster for my festival. Mx, Iggy, im looking in your general direction....

Aw man... That sounds cool! I will probably have lots of spare time this weekend since stash and our son are going away. So I might try my hand at this.

Oh yeah, and try to be realistic with some pics (cant have all big groups).

Also, as of right now were only allowed one reunion group (but every group member has to be living).

Day 1:

- Publice Enemy (headliner)

- Chemical Brothers (dance headliner)

- A.R. Rahman

- Kylie Mongue

- Sufjan Stevens

Day 2:

- Gorillaz (headliner)

- Leftfield ( dance headliner and reunion group)

- A Tribe Called Quest

- Yeah Yeah Yeahs

- Sigur Ros

Day 3:

- David Bowie

- Aphex Twin (featuring Chris Cunningham visuals)

- Muse

- George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars

- Tricky

thats all i got so far.... i feel i need to be more diverse, i need more indie/folk rock or something....please help me out! Suggestions please!

yes, i know, and thank you....but please give me some suggestions!

I need more punk, pop, indie rock, folk rock, maybe some jazz, and even world artists/producers, that would work in an alternative festival. Help me out!

My suggestions for the virtual shin dig, likely more to follow:

Fatboy

Underworld

Air

Kasabian

Spiritualized

Josh Winkie Dinkie

Amon Tobin (for you Ben_j, because you are coming to the virtual fest, no excuses)

Jurassic 5

Shane McGowan (or are the Pogues back together this week?)

Bloc Party

Modeski Martin & Wood

And how about a Together Tent? :D

Or a Forum Tent? :D

I think the festival should take place somewhere extraordinary. Like Mars, or the Moon. Or the Mir space station! Come on, it would be cool!

I don't know if I can help out in this but I'll try. Don't know much about these guys but they're latest album 'Two Thousand' was cool - I liked it, French Kicks, they're quite indie'ish.

Another Indie Rock group I liked were 'The American Analog Set'

Don't know much background about these guys but a lot of people have kicked up quite a fuss about them apparently, 'Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly'.

Another group, which i regret not going to see at last years Oxegen, were a two piece [I think] - called, Giant Drag. I liked their 'Hearts and Unicorns' album.

The Loon by Tape's and Tape's was good - I liked that.

Headliner material for an indie tent or something The Arcade Fire/The Flaming Lips/Sonic Youth ??

Other groups that could be put in somewhere and that I would recommend:

65daysofstatic

Art Brut

MSTRKRFT

Explosions in the Sky

[A really cool native irish band] God is an Astronaut - I love these guys.

Krafty Kuts

Kid Koala

DJ Yoda

Fujiya & Miyagi - Just recently checked these guys out - I like them.

Junior Boys

Mercury Rev

Mute Math

And for a reunion what about Orbital?

Hope it helps

Sounds like a good list to me my friend! Great country you live in by the way.

I was thinking back to the Summercase festival, bands that didn't draw the biggest crowds but still did a good show.

Cut Copy - Kind of Indie/electro band, lively performers.

Sparks - Old 70s (and 80s?) rock band with eccentric but legendary keyboard player. They played 'This town ain't big enough for the both of us', they went down well with the crowd. Remember them Jeanie? 8)

How about Larry T, Moby lookalike acid house dj, he came on shortly after the Chems.

The Dandy Warhols - Don't remember many of their tracks when they played (just the uplifting 'Bohemian Like You') but they had a good vibe.

...also have to mention Gary Numan, not cos I'm a huge fan (as some people on here think hehe) but just for the presence he has on stage and his crazy fans.

It's a joke, am I right ? :P

Honestly, I know that I live in a bad country, but I'm still proud that I'm Polish.

We're talking about festivals, so I have to say that I'm going to be in the summer on the Heineken Open'er Festival in Gdynia (Poland). There'll be Beastie Boys, Bjork, The Roots, Muse and Sonic Youth. I'm waiting for news of the other stars ;]

I would shift the Chems from Day 1 to closing out the festival on Day 3. I mean, really, I pity the bands who have to play in the shadow of the top act of the festie.

Leftfield would be my choice for reunion group and I'd put them dance headlining the first day.

Other suggestions for bands:

MSTRKRFT (DJ set)

Massive Attack (can't believe you don't have them listed!!!)

Chikinki

The Klaxons

Simian Mobile Disco (DJ set)

Hot Chip

The Rapture

Add N to X

Black Strobe (DJ set)

M83

Booka Shade (DJ set)

Primal Scream

Tiga (DJ set)

Josh Wink (DJ set)

Soulwax (Nite Versions)

Digitalism (DJ set)

King Unique (DJ set)

Tomahawk

Underworld (possibly to replace Aphex as a dance headliner)

The Prodigy (ditto, not that I don't like Aphex of course!)

...

and most importantly, Dan Van Damn (DJ set)!!!! :D

i would have put massive attack, but the whole thing with this contest is trying to be fresh. And the fact that massive attack just played at coachella last year isnt too much of a suprise factor if I add them to my fantasy festival. Thats why im trying to think outside of the box. Remember, this is the Coachella forumers Im trying to impress here, gotta keep them on their toes!

Dan Van Damn, just locked himself a spot on my festival.

Yeah, it's a fine line to walk. You can either put out the obvious but amazing lineup and have everyone go 'meh, I've seen all those bands' or put out the obscure but amazing lineup and have everyone go 'meh, who the hell are these guys?'

Fine line, indeed.
