If that annoys you, if it gets your down then immerse yourself in an escapist world and turn off the news every once in a while. Simple as that - we all do it on a Saturday night every now and again.
I have to ask Why should artists be immune to the world around them? Why should they just shut up and play? I can't fuckin stand it when I hear people say "who the fuck are these people, do they think they're political experts, why don't they shut and play." Why can't they have an opinion outside of their music? Part of art is expressing your opinion. Even if it's off the clock...
Maybe I grew up listening to and loving outspoken artists, like U2, so it was natural for me to gravitate towards those all too willing to express their opinion through song. I actually find it inspiring that people I admire aren't immune to the world around them.

Sometimes music artist should stay out of political issues, because they often look like fools, but I do think it is good for them to do it because it helps promote the causes.
In the end I would not want Moby to change the way he is.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND-- Bloody hell. Mung bean loving, tofu caressing, non-animal eating, left wing, techno millionaire baldy Moby has confessed to going on a cocaine binge with a lap dancer. Nice one.
Moby made the admission at New York's China Club which hosts story telling nights where punters are encouraged to entertain each other by relating exciting stories or events.
He explained that six months ago he went to a 'gentleman's club' (*cough*) in Times Square, New York, where a lap dancer offered to dance for him. According to the New York Daily News reported, the star refused, but gave her $400 "just to talk" (*splutter*). The paper quotes Moby saying,
"She gave me a bag of cocaine. I'm 38, but I'd never done coke before." Before explaining, "I didn't know you were supposed to share."
When Moby then explained that he took all the cocaine himself, something that greatly irritated the stripper, who got "very aggressive" when she realised he had hoovered up all her gear. In fact Moby had to buy her a $400 bottle of champagne to try to placate her.
Moby then had an unfortunate emergency toilet incident which resulted in him soiling his "sleazy Versace suit", before he went home. Once there he confessed to calling up a former girlfriend who he claims offered to come over and keep the sleepless musician company.
And just in case you thought the mental image you have right now couldn't get any more disturbing, Moby confessed that they then "made love all night." (*shudder*).

I saw him live at this tiny little venue in Palo Alto, can't remember the name of it for the life of me, about a year or so before Play came out... it was really, really incredible, and he ended the set standing on top of his Korg with his arms out and the crowd (all 200 hundred or so of us) just went nuts...
Then Play came out, and I loved it. Listened to it over and over again.
I didn't even care when every single song on Play started popping up in every fricken commercial that came out. I was like, hell, there aren't any radio stations cool enough to play his stuff, brother's gotta get his music out there, who cares how he does it?
And then came the terrible, terrible day that I stopped listening to Moby.
It was a Thursday night, a dark and eldritch night... I was waiting for ER to come the television, and I was too stoned to get up and switch channels... then I head the familiar strains of 'Body Rock' coming from my television, and I thought, 'Oh, what has Moby done now? What sort of company was cool enough to realize the awesomeness of Moby and license his arm raising, ass shaking tune for their product? Was it a car commercial? '
I leaned closer to the television, to catch a glimpse....
AND WHAT A TERRIBLE SIGHT I BEHELD! yes, there was ass shaking, but to my everlasting regret it was aging, obese, over the hill 80s television stars shaking their gigantic asses! THere was Kristy :I-never-should-have-stopped-doing-blow" Ally and Kathy "I'm-best-on-television-when-I'm-doing-voices-for-Kingofthehill-and-you-don't-have-to-look-at-me" Najimy convorting and prancing with Chippendales male dancers!!!!! The horror, the horror.
and I could never listen to Moby again.

Thats what I think as well. I think it has become fashionable to criticise Moby. A lot of the time people dismiss his music as crap, just because he is a vegan and has views on the world, before they have actually listened to the record. If people don't like his music after listening to it, fair enough but at least listen to it first.
Sorry, haven't we said this before about another recent album? ;-)
ps. For the record I haven't heard the album yet but plan on buying it.

So, I finally listened to "Hotel", and I have to say, it doesn't suck nearly as bad as I thought it would... except for the "i'm loaded on Cough Syrup" version of Temptation, that absolutely sucks... they took a song about the giddiness of being young and in love and tranferred it to retirement/pensioner community.
Sadly, Barney is on record as saying he likes it (forget where I read that, though). Poor, poor, Barney. Said he loves 'Galvanize' too, though.

Of course he loves it, he got paid when Moby redid it.

I think the record is pretty damned good (much better than 18, I think) and has some great song composition. I've been hearing bits and pieces when it's played in my store, but I've only listened to it in full context once. It flows nicely, and it will be making the rounds in my cd player for sure.
I do agree with 'stash a little about the Temptation cover. Can't say I'm very fond of it - it's not totally horrific, but I don't know... I'm not sure if it's something I really wanted to hear on a Moby record. But hey, it's just an opinion.
