you then have to send it to an apple place where they make them and have it replaced for about $100/?100
(2) yes it has a big hdd but do you really have 20,000 songs that you would put onto your pc and transfere over and listen to all the time?!
(3) there are much smaller and better mp3 players out there, shop around, you WILL find a better deal than the ipod.......but then again if its only looking cool you're worried about then blow the ?400 on one!!!! :D
* creative labs, sony, panasonic, or then there is always the endlessly superior NET-md's, 4hrs music to one disc, editing, small, light, just generally great!!!! but if its mp3 you want then please do shop around, i know way too many ppl that wasted money on 2003's most useless gadget!!!

Is it besides the point that: my 2 and a half year old iPod can still hold a charge for two hours of continuous play? That you probably don't realize that there's a difference between listening to 10,000 songs in one day and having 10,000 songs available to you at all times so you can listen to whatever you suddenly feel like listening to? That the iPod is the smallest functional portable music player and the only thing nearly every other mp3 players (which generally only play mp3/wma unlike the iPod) have on the iPod is battery life (which is due to cheap memory, smaller hd)? That you're probably a fucking liar and like the way the iPod looks? That you can drop the iPod repeatedly and it will not break? That music libraries grow?
And don't deny being attracted to shiny things!!! It's a natural human response -- chemical release! ;)
I own two iPods (5 GB, and 15 GB), my dad has two (5 GB, and 40 GB), and my sister one (15 GB). You're insulting us by saying it's a waste of money. The iPod changes the way you listen to music, the way you live your life. Now, feel free to go fuck yourself chemd'up.
(For the record, the iPod is the best, most reliable "mp3 player", and also *happens* to be the best value. Also, only the low-end model lacks a dock, remote, and case -- all models include a charger, and all cables. Finally, I'm Canadian.)

I'd also like to mention a couple other things. The iPods in my family are NOT used only for listening to music. They are excellent as small, fast hard drives -- one of the great features.
That said, they also work with one's computer seamlessly, especially Macs.

Jesus. Again insulting me. And don't give me pseudo-philosophical bullshit, please. Plastic can change the way you live your life more than, say, a near-death situation. It all depends on how happy you are, really (there are other factors, but lets not get into those here!).

Such is subjective. I happen to find the iPod and new Macs very well designed, but you don't have to.

Functionality is defined (and I'm using "define" in the mathematical sense) by the uses, advantages, and disadvantages. The iPod's operating system is intuitive, the wheel is brilliantly natural, and the touch sensitive buttons are very nice. But those are only human interface items. The iPod serves as a music player, high-capacity quality hard drive, and, whether you like it or not, a status item. It also suits many situations (I can take it to school, to a party, wherever, and with all my music there's something for everyone). It may not be as small as some players, but it makes up for that with aforementioned qualities.

NEVER!!!! X-D ;) Seriously, though. It really isn't.

Amen.
iguanapunk: absolutely any! At least, anything that your computer supports.

Oh, and I advise waiting for the next revision, in case you plan to buy one anytime soon... It's expected some time in the near future -- but don't hold me to that!

as a status symbol, well its a bit sad if an mp3 player makes you feel like you stick out of the crowd or have money cause every second person has one! spend your money on a new haircut or a controversial tee-shirt.....i suggest "quick jesus is coming....hide the porn!"
the mini ipod sold out in north america in the first minute it was on sale....or something stupid like that, it is pretty likely it will be the end of the summer or even december b4 it swims accross the pond...
wow did i really write that much! god im tired......
in conclusion: boo ipod....yey everyone else......
good night.......and go andy kauffman! the legnd lives.......

Also, my hair styles are free -- and on occasion I'm paid to change my hair ($1000 to get rid of orange dye, $2000 to get rid of dreadlocks 8)). So I suppose I'm not quite, erm, on the same level I suppose. I agree with you on the status item bit -- it's ridiculous and a bit funny! TBH though, I've never heard any complaints about the iPod other than price and some silly battery complaint. I've been a Mac-man all my life, so maybe I'm a tad biased -- hope not though!

I've thought about it though, I think they're great if that's what you're into but I don't want to spend that kind of money for one. It's just not my thing. I think the convenience has been a factor when I've entertained the thought of getting an ipod (like, when I get into my car for a trip and I'm jonsing to listen to a particular song but ooops, I left that song at home - damn - stuff like that) But really, lugging around a wallet and the rare occasions of being musically unprepared on the go doesn't bug me that much. I don't mind cycling through my discs every week or so and switching music out of my wallet. It's good for keeping all those cd's on my shelf dusted off!

bumper stickers and t's that make me smile: "Jesus Is Coming, Look Busy!"
Silly question here GLAKO, but I am intrigued... how come you get paid to change your hair, are you some sort of hair model or something?
I wish someone would pay me to change my hair. At the rate I'm going (dying my locks monthly but that's to get rid of the gray) I could be retired by now! ;)
